Step 9: Fig Newt Gingriches

Newt Composition Flat.jpg
All newtons.jpg
These pale, doughy treats are a new take on the classic Fig Newton recipe. Sure, they might look physically unappealing, but each Fig Newt Gingrich's misshapen exterior contains a deliciously sweet and chewy center.

For a non-vegetarian option, try substituting the figs with actual newts! I haven't tried it, but what's the worst that could happen?

Ingredients:

For the dough:
  • 4 oz butter
  • 125 g sugar
  • zest of 1 orange and 1 lemon
  • 1 egg white
  • 200g white flour
For the center:
  • 15-20 dried figs
  • 1 cup of apple juice
  • 1 cup of pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 50g sugar
