Introduction: Coasters and Bookmarks Out of Filter Paper Used in Chemistry

During my last high school year I had chemistry lab classes where we experimented with precipitation reactions. The teacher told us that we could keep the filter paper we used if we wanted, and so I did. It looked really beautiful and I thought I could use it as a decorative item, in this case BOOKMARKS and COASTERS. You can also make them with chromatography filter paper.

**Make sure the chemical compounds of the reaction are NOT NOXIVE for humans and CANNOT DESTROY the plastic layer**

Step 1: Select the Precipitate

- You will get different sizes of precipitate.
- Put apart the biggest pieces.
- We need it as flat as possible as we'll be placing glasses and we want it to be stable.

**Make sure the chemical compounds of the reaction are NOT NOXIVE for humans and CANNOT DESTROY the plastic layer**

Step 2: Laminate the Filter Paper

- I don't own a laminating machine, so I went to a copy store to have it done.
- In case of the coaster, you might prefer it to be thicker, so stick a layer of cork to it.
- I left it with no cork base to use it both as coaster and bookmark.

Step 3: Show Them Off!

Just enjoy explaining how you got the crystals!!
