I once saw a method where you cut the CD as shown above and then you can heat the part where the cuts meet and then just gently twist the blades :)

it's just a connector, wires get put in both sides and the screws lock them in place

where would i get the small motor?? from a old tape radio? im still not sure how you do the wiring and if you really need to solder it... im stll a beginner

radioshack has a bunch of them for $3 to $5 and something like a tape player or old hairdryer or something like that would work

Me too. Next best thing is Maplin for high street components, but they are expensive and no where near as common as Radioshack. My nearest is brighton, 13 miles away. a 20 min train journey to buy a resistor, not gunna happen.

lol yea maplins is a bloody rip-off, i just get what i need from my DT department at lunch break when there's no-one around, not a very big choice though, switches, leds, and motors nothing special.

Is there any easier way to cut the cd? because every time i tried, it kept fracturing, making that blade worthless.

u can use a scicors....just use a sharp one....blunt ones make the CD crack

get someone to blow on it with a WARM NOT HOT hair dryer and cut it with scissors or watevr youve got....

How are you supposed to bend the blades? I cut 8 sections but they won't stay angled after I bend them. Oh, and if you do this with CD-R's, you'll get flakes of shiny reflective paint everywhere.

Use the candle to melt the blades a little at the base

also if you have an old cd player, if you taek it apart, you can get a motor out of it that has a spot that lets the cd snap right in. it's the part that you actually put the cd onto.

oh yeh i broke open a old cd player that sukked and i found 2 or 3 motors, wire, switches, capcitors, and a lot of stuff

Yep. They're actually quite useful for electronics of all levels. The one i opened even had 2 audio connectors that i plan to use for an amplifier.

I just sttripped down a CDRW to see what usable parts I could find in it. For this project you'd likely have to use the tray transport motor, since both the head and disc drivers were stepper motors and need a specific pulse stream on 2or more sets of windings. Though a cheap stereo system (radio/tape/CD) I stripped a while ago had a regular DC motor for the disc instead of a stepper. You just have to see how they're connected (2 terminals are simple, just add DC).

It's only the CD writers will have a stepper, reader only just has to turn away so it's almost always DC motor...

i cut a little material out from in between each fan blade to give it some room to suck some air in and it prevented it from fracturing when bending it over the flame. here's a picture of what it looks like,

I think i will make one of these but i will add a wire cage to it. Yea i like my fingers and knowing me i would accidently put something important behind it and it would be destroyed.
