nice but should you computer be on when you open it?
Lol ive built alot of computers with no covers one in a 70mm Ammo case alot of them i never did shut down but to reboot
I usually leave mine open when it's on. Better air flow. As long as you don't let your pets or small children it's pretty safe.
my cat used sleep in my dads computer. Nothing happened to my cat or my dads computer
But maybe you're cat just came in from outside where it was rainy, or just got done licking itself, or it might have a little metal shaving caught on it's fur. It get's in your computer and next thing you know, you've got a doorstop.
my computer never had a cover on it

Instead of using an regular light bulb how about LEDs? how would you wire that up?
Simply Wire All (led and resistor ) Like in this schematic i did
conve.001.jpg
there is a better way to add more leds to the schematic than just one. there was another instructable that showed how to maximize the light output with more leds and with either little or no resistance (meaning lower value resistor or none at all). im not sure who it was by but i know its somewhere around the site.
what's the point in adding resistors to the LED schematic when they work fine without it?
in fact it has two purposes ,first and most important is to limit and define the current and second limit the voltage ,thus avoididing to fry the led and closing the voltage so just 0 volts reach the USB negativa voltage limit
oh i see now...thanks for clearing that up..i'm gona start using resistors now..i've been going without them for a long time...a funny way of looking at it is a man not using a condom for protection and then gettin a disease but with an LED it would fry up instead. hehe (silly, i know)

i think it is cool but pointless. But what the heck i'm going to make one. I don't know what for (thinks maybe if I add some type of Charger to it so I do have to stay hooked to my computer)anyway who works on their computer in the dark anyway
ReCreate nabzaf5 years ago
capacitor?
nabzaf ReCreate5 years ago
yes but the cap will only hold a charge for about a few sec. need a bat hooked up also
cool, but honestly i dont know when ill ever need a usb flashlight :-\
Great idea.(I see that you like to customize your stuff, I do the same thing) I'll probably make this flashlight but I'll probably make a static one to see my keyboard in the dark (Though the screen lights it). Anyway great idea and great instructable
why did you comment me to tell the maker...?
I think because within the comment to the make there is an idea of the usage, maybe. The static keyboard light, which could be a usb flashlight that is in a holder. The corner that I am stuck in has little light when the room lights are on. much less in the dark. I could snap the light into place above the keyboard and remove it when I need to find a particular CD container hidden in the cabinet below my keyboard.
power goes out i use my usb flashlight!!!! kinda works for me cause i have a battery back-up but i really don't see any use for it....

I would just add some batteries, and make it a rechargeable USB light. Nice!
