how to make this lamp shade plz ?
joasan18 says: Sep 4, 2009. 10:52 AM
i think the usb have 4 wires right? we only use black and red what about the other wires?
hsarode1 in reply to joasan18Jul 19, 2011. 7:38 AM
Ya we have 4 wires but we use only 2 they r red and black because they r power cables while green and white r for transfering Data .
godofal in reply to joasan18Sep 23, 2009. 12:31 AM
red and black are the power wires, the other two are for data, but we dont need to exchange data.
to be clear:
red= +5v
black= ground
green= data ground
white = data +
knektek in reply to godofalSep 26, 2009. 1:49 PM
i had thought that negative ( red ) was ground and positive ( black ) ws +5v.
hsarode1 in reply to knektekJul 19, 2011. 7:39 AM
U r rong godfal is correct
knektek in reply to hsarode1Jul 19, 2011. 5:08 PM

How hard would it be to mod this to use a couple LEDs?
led235 in reply to mikedothDec 12, 2007. 2:17 PM
basiclly, just get a few White or any colored LEDs and hook them up to a 1k resistor. The output is 9 volts out of a USB plug
natrinicle in reply to led235Dec 18, 2007. 10:01 PM
Actually the output of a standard usb port is 5v at 500-1000Ma depending on the controller card.
Callum Snowden in reply to natrinicleJul 10, 2010. 11:56 PM
Yeah nominally 5VDC @ 500mA
Yerboogieman in reply to mikedothOct 25, 2007. 1:34 PM
i'd just get a few 5v - 6v max LED's and hook em up, maybe a resistor to make the LED last longer...
mikedoth in reply to YerboogiemanOct 26, 2007. 9:33 AM
Thanks, i'll see if it works and report back soon.

the orange thing is called a<br/>2-Position Dual-Row Barrier Strips, and can be purchased at radioshack for $2.29. You can buy bigger ones for more money too. Here is the link for both big and small.<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=barrier%20strip&origkw=barrier%20strip&sr=1">link</a><br/><br/>Here is the link for the smaller one . <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103228">link</a><br/><br/>I am sorry but the link would not move from in between (and & small)<br/>
Callum Snowden in reply to TOCOJul 10, 2010. 11:54 PM
Or they can be called terminal blocks, choc-blocks or terminal strip :) (just so you can do a search on them)
ShampooRobot says: Oct 4, 2008. 7:03 AM
couldnt i just attach those red and black USB cables derectly to the bulb? without that orange thing?
godofal in reply to ShampooRobotSep 23, 2009. 12:32 AM
yes, it can, but it would be harder to replace the light bulb
Tututu says: Feb 14, 2009. 1:53 PM
Thanks a lot for that idea I made it with an 3.8V bulb My usb cable was 4V So now I made a greate flashlight 5/5

Bartboy in reply to mister2Jun 29, 2008. 8:15 AM
Do you mean the scissors or the terminal strip?
dude300 in reply to mister2Dec 2, 2007. 5:41 AM
an electrical shop like maplin
poobajones in reply to dude300Jan 11, 2008. 7:33 PM
what are they called?
n0ukf in reply to poobajonesMar 7, 2008. 1:14 PM
Terminal strip.
GitarGr8 in reply to poobajonesFeb 4, 2008. 3:19 PM
I'd call it a terminal block, or terminal base. We use something similar that mounts to din rail for our control panels at work.
dude300 in reply to poobajonesJan 12, 2008. 11:20 AM
i actually dont know
Geod says: May 3, 2008. 5:11 PM
There's no need to solder the bulb, simply use a bulb socket that comes with a positive and negative lead.
n0ukf says: Mar 7, 2008. 1:23 PM
Using LEDs (depending on how many) would give you more light for the same power or use less power for the same light output. And you can tailor the color of the light by combining different colored LEDs (give each its own current limiting resistor since white, blue and UV LEDs have a higher voltage requirement than red, green and yellow).

i did kinda dis on your flashlight but this seems more useful so you can see your keyboard perfect instructable, looks like one of those chinese lamp things kinda
