At the request of one of the commenters, I decided to put up some benchmarks to get a rough idea of performance. Screenshots of each configuration are in the photos below. As usual, click on the little 'i' in the top left corner for a link to the full sized image.

In summary, here are the XBench scores for each configuration, along with some standards for comparison. I was quite surprised to see my external USB drive outperform the internal SATA disk.

39.47 - Western Digital 250GB IDE Drive in External USB Enclosure
35.13 - Hitachi 80GB SATA Internal
11.07 - Striped Raid (4x2GB USB Thumb Drive)
02.94 - PQi 2GB USB Thumb Drive attached to Hub
02.82 - PQi 2GB USB Thumb Drive attached to PC
02.79 - Mirrored Raid
02.68 - Concatenated RAID

Looks like striping is the way to go to make these things usable. Anyway, please feel free to comment and have fun!

Striping may bee faster, but if one stick is lost, all your Data is gone. There's no way to get it back. I would recomend using Raid 5. Enough speed, and if one stick ist lost, you can just exchange it, and wait for the raid to rebuild the Info of it.

If you use raid they will all register as one drive on any computer, right? Any chance of Os clashes? (windows to mac)
