My personal issue with this is that as a Girl Guide, one of the highlights of the year was selling the cookies. You felt successful, and you were helping your group with your efforts. When you sold a lot yourself, you were awarded prizes from the main office for the effort (I got a plush cookie). I personally would rather buy, AND donate my time and money to the cause of making other girls enjoy the experiences I was able to have.

That being said, AWESOME!!!! I won't be making any because I need to eat through the case I buy each season, but I hope you guys have fun and enjoy them. This is a cool page n.n

As good as these probably are, I dissaproove of this. Us girl scouts lose vital troop money because of recipies like these. We use that money to do things like travel the world and attend events that could count for college credits. Also, I'm sure it would probably be cheaper to fork over the $4.00 than to waste your time driving all the way to the store(which is bad enough with gas prices these days) and buy all the baking supplies you need. Just buy the cookies instead. P.S: They should use palm oil instead! ;)

I don't know why they won't sell to your mom. There is no reason not to.

As a former Girl Scout myself and involved with the Scouts all the way up through troop leading, I can say that what the troop gets from each box is far less than what the average person is paying. You'd be better off going to the store, buying the ingredients, and making them yourself then giving the money you saved by not buying the box of 14 (Lemon Chalet Cremes) to 44 (Trefoils) (not that hard to figure out how many "boxes" you made) directly to the troop. That way the troop is maximizing their profits.

Considering that the troop doing all the work gets far less than 50% of the profits off each box, buying them is almost shameful if you're doing it to support your local troop.

That. doesn't. matter! We still get to do extremely fun things with the money! We just went to Build a Bear and had a 40.00 spending limit! We are also planning on going camping and going to the local amusement park, the Adventuredome! (Which, should I mention, is heinously expensive to go to for SEVEN ALL DAY PASSES!!!!) If you don't buy cookies from girl scouts, nobody will!!!!

Wow. Look, I'm thrilled that your troop is getting to do fun things with the minimal profits received from the incentivized marketing of what is basically junk food, but you are not grasping that I didn't say you don't get money from cookie sales. What I said was that if you were to make 120 knock off thin mints for $5 (estimated price for ease of math in demonstration) and then turned around and gave the $5.50 you saved from not buying 3 boxes of thin mints for $10.50 directly to the troop they would be making /more/ money and be able to do /more/ fun things. The troop receives less than a dollar from each box sold, usually around $.50 per box, so off those three boxes, they'd make $1.50. You can say it doesn't matter, but you must admit that $5.50 is much better than $1.50. So thanks but I still won't be buying cookies and will just continue giving $20 to the local troop each year at cookie time. That's 40 boxes they don't have to sell and a heck of a lot cheaper than trying to actually buy 40 boxes ($140) or eat them.

As much as I can vouch for your defense of the funds that these cookies surely bring in, it really is less expensive to make these yourself. The ingredients that go into these are good for many more than 28 cookies, and if you buy them during the usual supermarket visit, then transportation costs aren't an issue.

P.S. If sinemetu speaks the truth, that's probably a better route for the troops than buying the boxes outright.

I'm a former Girl Scout and quite honestly, I know how much money from each box of cookies the individual troop really gets. It's less than a dollar. A LOT less. These recipes are awesome and anyone that feels guilt about not buying the cookies, just donate a few bucks directly to the troop. They make out better that way.

Yes! One donation of $5 is like selling 10 boxes of cookies!

In our part of the country a box of cookies sells for $3.50 and the troop keeps only 50 cents for every box sold. I know because I still have some in my living room waiting to be sold before next week! LOL! I appreciate recipes like this because one of my girls and I are on a gluten free diet. We sell cookies that we cannot eat. While these recipes are not gluten free recipes, I can alter them so that my daughter who is selling Girl Scout cookies can actually eat something that tastes like it but doesn't make her sick. I don't think that troops will lose money by having recipes posted. I love to bake, but if I were able to eat them, I'd still buy a box of Thin Mints to freeze then eat those cold cookies! Or pop a Samoa into the microwave for a few seconds til it is gooey & yummy! This is for the other 11 months of the year when GS cookies aren't available.

These cookies are a wonderful alternative as we have decided to not buy Girl Scout Cookies until they commit to using Palm Oil from only sustainable growers or remove it completely from their recipes. I donate 1/4 the price of a box of cookies x the number of girls in a troop (That's the money the troop keeps from cookie sales) I include a letter from Rhiannon Tomtishen, 15, and Madison Vorva, 16, who have been calling on Girl Scouts USA to remove palm oil from its cookies to protect orangutan habitats.
