Introduction: Under Cabinet IPad / Tablet Mount

I like to do some cooking from time to time and usually I'm following a recipe I found online. I created this under cabinet mount for my phone so I can follow the instructions easily. You can also use it for tablets / ipads or paperclip a piece of paper to it. It's very simple to make and is inexpensive. It keeps the tablet off the counter tops and out of the way of any flying debris. When I'm not using it I just flip it up and no one knows it is there.

Step 1: Items Required

You'll need two items to make the mount. The first item is a under-cabinet television mount. These are inexpensive and can be found at Amazon or Monoprice. I got mine from Monoprice. The second item is some type of tablet stand with a back. I used a laptop stand from Ikea called a Brada.

The tools you will need are a jigsaw or hacksaw, maybe some spray paint, and glue.

Step 2: Assembly

If you are going to use a brada you'll need to cut it down to about a 4"x6" peice with the bottom lip being the part where the tablet will rest. I used a jigsaw to do this. You can then sand down the edges to smooth it out and spray it with paint. Once that dries, glue it to the television mount being careful to not glue it too high so a tablet can fit standing up. I used Elmers craft glue because it was all I had laying around and it holds just fine. Then you can mount the television mount under your cabinet. The television mount I purchased has a bolt to adjust the mounts tension when up. Since you only have the plastic stand on it when it's up it won't need to be very tight to stay up.

If you're worried about the tablet sliding off the stand you can get some rubber hose, cut it length wise, and glue it to the lip so the house fits over the lip. The other option is to glue a some sort of wedge between the stand and mount to create an angle when the stand is down. The stand I purchased come out far enough where the stand is at an angle and the item it's holding is secure.
