Great job! No need for the x-acto. I usually use a small jeweler's screwdriver

Thanks! I just figured you'd have a knife of some sort on you since you were either going to unlock it or just cut it off.

I thought these things were disposable. When I use them I have no intention of ever removing them. Furthermore I tighten them with side cutters and clip the extra off to make a neat appearance. If I have an application requiring future removal I use very cheap Velcro strips.

Well, normally. But sometimes I don't intend to keep them on forever and want to remove them. This is a way to reuse them. Save the environment, man!

"Everyone knows zipties are the main cause of global warming because people don't recycle. If you don't know that, you must be living under an ice cap. If you reuse them, the world will cool down and everyone will get together and hold hands!" LOL! You rock! Plus... then when everyone's holding hands, you sneak up behind 'me with a pocket full of liberated zip-ties and... ;)

I was thinking more "handcuffs across America", but that's good too.

Hye nice one skate, for the tiny zipties a safety pin works really well, it's fiddly to get anything under the latch piece but once you do you're in business, nice 'ible...

Thanks! Do you mind if I put that safety pin tip in the Instructable? I've had lots of ideas for Instructables this month. I don't know why...
killerjackalope says: May 15, 2008. 8:37 AM
Go ahead... I know what you mean, I've published six this month and none of them have been rubbishy ones, got another project that's been coming since before the green contest, working out the construction process has been very difficult...
xACIDITYx says: May 15, 2008. 8:45 AM
Thanks! I added it in.

Good luck on your instructable. I actually didn't make this to be added. I saw it at the end and was like:
I might as well enter it
killerjackalope says: May 15, 2008. 9:33 AM
Yeah see the ubran cycling 'ible, that had been in my unpublished for months, getting rewritten and written aswell as waiting for pics, then on the day I published it the bike contest appeared... Thanks, it'll all be good now that I've got the work figured out, also it'll look damn cool now, it involves cans...

If you don't have any tools handy and you are dexterous enough you can use your fingernail to lift the edge of the catch then use the end of the tie to force it open further. Hold it with your fingernail and slip the tie though the catch.

It works well if you hold the latch bit and use your thumbbail, then use your other hand to slide the ziptie open...
