Upgrading your ram is one of the easiest and cheapest things you can do to make your computer run faster. It greatly increases speed when the computer is running lots of programs at the same time, or when you are editing movies.

Step 1: Materials

You will need
-A laptop
-a piece of soft fabric to rest it on. Make sure that the fabric won't cause static.
-A micro screwdriver set (make sure you use the right size to avoid damaging the screw)
-Ram (I used 2 2G pieces, totaling 4G)
-A grounding strap (optional, but recommended)
-A coin
-Plenty of light

nice and easy, ive done this twice on my macbook - You forgot to mention the bit where you have to touch the inside of the case to balance your static electricity.

I thought just touching something grounded was enough. Thanks

What do you mean, cant I just unscrew the stuff take the old RAM out and then put the new ram in?
LinuxH4x0r (author) in reply to jackillac92Dec 7, 2008. 7:52 PM
You might burn sensitive parts if you don't.
Arbitror in reply to LinuxH4x0rFeb 9, 2010. 7:59 AM
Actually, leave the computer plugged in (charging), but tuned off. Now any static electricity will just go to the ground through the charger. And you're not quite burning them, you're "electrocuting" them. ;)
LinuxH4x0r (author) in reply to ArbitrorFeb 9, 2010. 10:45 AM
Actually thats only for desktops. The charger doesn't have a ground. If you look at the 120vac end of the charger you'll notice that there is no ground plug.
DemonicRoss in reply to LinuxH4x0rMay 16, 2010. 6:10 PM
I checked my macbook and it has a ground in the plug.
Redgerr in reply to DemonicRossJun 29, 2010. 8:28 AM
depends on the charger, some do some dont... but yeah, you need to make sure it does have a ground and touch it otherwise you CAN short out stuff in your computer... you can also get a grounding bracelet (like 3$) or put a paperclip or somthing in the ground plug and touch it if you have one near by

I thought this was going to be a more in depth procedure like changing the RAM on an acer aspire one. You have to remove the entire keyboard etc, doesn't changing the RAM void your warranty like it does with other laptops?

LinuxH4x0r (author) in reply to jackillac92Nov 17, 2008. 6:40 PM
It makes it faster and not lag when you have lots of programs open
