Introduction: Upgrading a Room Floor With Self Adhesive Vinyl Floor Planks With the Help of Hydraulic Car Jack

Thank you very much for posting this fix and improve contest which made us  to do our guest room so quickly. We  have been postponing this for the last two years and finally done with it.If not for this contest  I guess we wouldn't have done it this summer too.
Here is my next  Instructables...... as how to do vinyl flooring.
I measured the length and width of the room and multiplied the two to get my square meters.
I am posting with loads of pictures ,so that looking at the photographs alone every one  can understand very well.

Step 1: Requirements.

Vinyl self adhesive Floor Planks
 wood wax
Vacuum cleaner
Furniture moving rollers
Scraper
Mopper
Mopping cloth
Roller
Pen knife
Car jack
Pencil
Tape
Basic hand tools

Step 2: View of the Prevoius Flooring

We have used this carpet for almost 9 years now.It was high time to change it.Due to lack of time it  was getting postponed every summer. No sooner the fix and improve contest came up,I decided that I must do it now or never. This kicked me off to do it as quickly  as possible. We were not happy with carpet because the room is small and not used all the time.Dust is very friendly with the carpets,so that was out.Laminate is too cold even in Autumn weather and noisy..We wanted self Adhesive vinyl  floor Planks which is easy to lay out and looks just like  wood flooring.Off we went on a Saturday morning with the floor measurement..
We were lucky to find the natural colour vinyl planks.
Since this old  carpet was not pasted ,every time we opened the windows for fresh air,it puffed up and never became even.It looked really  awful. The colour was also  irritating me all the time.

Step 3: Remove Appliances.

My husband  and I emptied  some of the stuffs in the room. The heavy furnitures were not taken out.(bed, computer table and cupboard)

Step 4: Remove Old Flooring

Removing the old carpet was not that easy as we thought, because  in some places the sponge coating  underneath the carpet had got pasted on to the floor. With a scraper we  had to scratch that away. Then we used turpentine to clean up the floor.

Step 5: Moving the Heavy Furniture

With the help of the furniture moving rollers it was easy to move the cupboard and other furnitures to onside.

Step 6: Sorting the Cables/Vacuum

We had to carefully sort out the cables.Vacuumed and mopped the  floor. The floor has to be dust free to paste the adhesive Planks.
2/3 of the room is cleaned up.

Step 7: Laying of the Self Adhesive Vinyl Planks

My hubby  did  it alone, while  I was at work.So there is no proper pictures to show you all how the glue tape was removed and pasted. You will see it at the end when pasting the borders.Start pasting from one corner, a full plank, then cut another exactly in to two and paste half of the plank next to it.Each time you paste a vinyl plank roll  on top of it with a roller so that the air bubbles come out and it is even. We  have used a wall paper roller.Refer the detailed photographs, you will understand.
He finished one side  first and moved the furnitures on to the completed area  then did the other sides.

Step 8: Lifting the Heavy Bed With the Car Jack

The biggest help he got was from a car jack,to lift the heavy bed. What a good idea?Once he lifted the bed with  the car jack he did the flooring under the bed to a certain extend. Then he moved the bed to the left side where it is already completed and followed up.

Step 9: Removing the Boarders

We removed the boarders last because ,we were not sure if the vinyl  planks would be enough. If it had run short ,then we wanted to have the same colour wood boarders .Luckily we managed it with what we bought. There weren't any more to buy.

Step 10: Cutting the Vinyl Boarders

Measure the height of the border and mark it on the Vinyl plank.Cut them out straight with a scissor.

Step 11: Pasting the Vinyl Boarders

Remove the adhesive tape and slowly paste it on to the cleaned dust free border.Flatten with your fingers.

Step 12: Waxing the Joints

Once the floor is completed ,some times in some places you may see the joint  visible,If so then apply the  wood wax  slightly  in between.

Step 13: Hippie ....It's Done.

This self Adhesive vinyl floor  planks looks just like real wood.
I am glad that we did this finally. Thanks to the Instructables for putting  up this   fix and improve contest.
I hope next year too this fix and improve contest will come up ,so that I can do the master bed room with another flooring.I have my ides already working in my mind.
I hope that I have given enough explanation as how to do this.
Thanks for reading and please caste your votes/stars for me if this helps you to re do your floor with vinyl floor planks

Note:
I have posted this in the Hurriecane contest too.
I am a day care mom who is working full time, and do not have enough time for my sewing and crafting work which I love it very much.If ever I win the laser cutter I will give up my full time job or reduce it to a couple of hours(because I do a lot of craft work  with the kids and they will be dissapointed to see me no more)and start my own business at  home as I have enough and more sewing orders which I can not do it on time.Every instructable I do with the help of the laser cutter,I will definetly post it on this great site.
