Step 5For Mac Users

step 1
What you'll need
You don't really need much to do this. All you need is: A Mac (this guide is for 10.4 but im sure it would be very similar on 10.5) And XBOX 360 (duh) A wireless ne&

It won't let me connect with the shared network. When I try to bridge connections it says, "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing."

ctrl click wireless network control click local make sure both are selected then bridge
Mar 24, 2011. 9:13 AMcbrunschwyler says:
Yes, but if I allow network sharing, it will not let me create the bridge if I have the LAN and wireless both selected. My friend figured it out for me- you do not actually have to BRIDGE the connection as long as the 360 thinks your computer is a router and vice versa, so the LAN connection works.

Your step 5 for Mac users does not work. I have an instructable on how to do it for Macs here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Use-your-Mac-OSX-as-a-Wirelss-Adapter-for-you-XBOX/ . I would greatly appreciate it if for your step 5 you redirected people to my instructable, or at least corrected step 5. I know that when I first tried this for my Mac that I was very confused, but I found the correct method.

As a quick explanation, this procedure will work for anything that uses a wired ethernet connection. This is also the reason why the old XBOX (original) wireless adapter works. All of the bridging and sharing is done in Windows, and what is sent to the XBOX is standard ethernet packets. The XBOX doesn't even know that anything is different about your setup. The only thing I can think of for the people who are unable to update their boxes is that the laptop (or PC, whatever you're using) is blocking those ports on the Internet Connection Sharing setup. There's got to be a way to unblock ports, but off the top of my head, I can't think of what it would be.

For Windows XP:

Copy the following into notepad and save it to a file called "OPENUP.BAT" (of type "all files"):

@ECHO OFF
@ECHO Configuring firewall to allow XBOX LIVE traffic.
@ECHO Please wait.

REM To allow Windows traffic:
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = TCP port = 139 name="TCP_139" mode = ENABLE profile = all > nul
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = TCP port = 445 name="TCP_445" mode = ENABLE profile = all > nul
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = UDP port = 137 name="UDP_137" mode = ENABLE profile = all > nul
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = UDP port = 138 name="UDP_138" mode = ENABLE profile = all > nul

REM to open TCP and UDP ports 5500, 5800 and 5900 for UltraVNC:
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = TCP port = 5500 name = "UltraVNC TCP5500" profile = all > nul
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = UDP port = 5500 name = "UltraVNC UDP5500" profile = all > nul
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = TCP port = 5800 name = "UltraVNC TCP5800" profile = all > nul
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = UDP port = 5800 name = "UltraVNC UDP5800" profile = all > nul
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = TCP port = 5900 name = "UltraVNC TCP5900" profile = all > nul
netsh firewall add portopening protocol = UDP port = 5900 name = "UltraVNC UDP5900" profile = all > nul

REM Allow PING responses
netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8 enable > nul
netsh firewall set opmode mode = DISABLE > nul

@ECHO Completed!

Save it, then run the file as an administrator. Note that I don't know what ports are required for XBOX LIVE specifically, but the method should be obvious from the above.

That seems to be my issue. I use Windows XP SP3 and Windows Firewall. This website's solution has worked for me so far only when I turn off firewall completely. This article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874) describes which ports to open for Xbox Live, so I added them to my Firewall exceptions list. (FYI, they are:

TCP 80
UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074
UDP 53
TCP 53

I added these exceptions, but the 360 will not connect. Any suggestions?

So I've gotten it all hooked up, and I can connect to live, but I can't actually start a game or chat. It always times out, like the wireless is split too much between the two devices, but I have everything internet-related off (except the wifi) on the laptop. Anybody else have this problem or suggestions to fix it?
Feb 3, 2008. 4:32 AMdichromatic says:
Dude you left out the whole properly configuring it part. There are a few steps and services associated with ICS that you did not mention. ICS is more than just bridging. It enables a DHCP server on the LAN adapter. This will automatically give the 360 an IP address. The PC will then use a modified version of NAT to translate the LAN IP to your WAN(wireless) connection, thus enabling the 360 to go online. Bridging occurs on layer 2. It uses mac address not IP addresses.
