I was thinking of making a present, but it was very special. Then I found a lm3915 chip and said "let's get to work."
Some time ago I had made a map, but I had never tried it before. I'll show you how I did my own vu meter led with acrylic.

Estaba pensando en hacer un regalo, pero queria que fuese especial. Entonces encontré un chip LM3915 abandonado en mi cajón y dije "manos a la obra".
Hace mucho tiempo tenia pensado este proyecto pero nunca lo intenté hasta ahora.
Te mostraré como hice mi propio vúmetro led con acrílico.

Step 1: Materials

●5mm thick wood.
●10 acrylic frames 10 cm ^ 2
●1/4 iron screwdriver
● 1/4 nuts (11)

●wood glue


●transparent varnish.
●hot glue

●Chrome Paint


●Power cables
●1k ohm resistor
●10k ohm resistor





●10K Potenciometer
●Mini Project board
●5V DC 2.0A or 9V

Step 2: Acrylic

-First cut 10 frames of 8 cm ^ 2 acrylic.
-Then we make holes in the point (4 cm, 5 mm). And we introduce a nut and then the base.
-Then with a sander, we apply to each side to have a better appearance.

-Primero cortamos 10 cuadros de 8cm cuadrados de acrílico.
-Luego hacemos agujeros en el punto (4cm,5mm). Y luego introducimos una tuerca y una base, repetimos el procedimiento.
-Luego con una lijadora podemos perfeccionar los lados para tener un mejor aspecto.

Step 3: Chasis

●Cut 2 bases of 13cm ^ 2.
●Cut 2 of 12 cm x 5cm.
● Cut 2 of 13cmx5cm.
●Make a small hole for the potentiometer and another at the base to introduce the wires and the iron.
●Apply glue.

●Apply Varnish

Hacer un pequeño agujero para el potenciómetro y otro para introducir los cables y el hierro.

Aplicar pegamento.

Aplicar barniz transparente

Step 4: Compartment

With the carton we make rolls of the size of the led.

Apply Glue.

Introduce the whole acrylic base and underneath we apply a nut with pressure, to hold it.


Con el cartón hacemos rollos del tamaño del led.

Aplicamos pegamento.

Introducimos toda la base de acrilico y por debajo aplicamos una tuerca con presión, para sujetarlo.

Step 5: Circuit

We set the circuit on the project board.

Pass 11 argos cables through the hole in the wood.

The #11 cable is positive.


Montamos el circuito sobre la project board.

Pasamos 11 cables largos por el agujero.

Puedes sujetar los cables con goma caliente para cuando cierres ninguno se mueva.

Step 6: LED

We closed the box.

To avoid forgetting the location, mark each cable with a number so as not to make mistakes. We put the led in the compartments. With the positive towards the right side.


Cerramos la caja.

Para no olvidar la ubicación, marque cada cable con un número para no equivocarme. Ponemos los led en los compartimentos.

Conectamos todos los positivos. (lado derecho)

Step 7: Cover

After soldering all the led, we put a cover.


Después de soldar todos los led, colocamos una cubierta.

Step 8: Functioning

Look for a box of at least 11x11 inch.

Paint the box.

Let your creativity emerge.

    So I need to wire the + and - to a speaker directly or a jack? I'm confuse.

    You can use a jack only.

    I wanted to ask was that where the Entrade de audio is connected to?

    The audio input is connected to a sound equipment. As if it were a speaker. Another way is to use a 3.5mm jack, and a dual adapter jack 3.5 (one for the lights and another jack for the 3.5 jack speakers). But the signal from a cell phone is very weak.

    That audio input, tell me what is '+' and '-'? There is generally three terminals in 3.5 mm stereo audio jack which are left right and ground. So what + & - are connected to?

    Pin 5 is audio input (+). And the potentiometer is (-). However it works without an order. Because it is not a speaker. When you connect a speaker, the impulse is inward. But the meter only waits for an audio signal. I hope I have helped and sorry for my English :)
