These make great gifts. And there are a lot of possibilities when it comes to making these. I'm not sure what type of wood this veneer is. I think it's rose wood.

There are a lot of possibilities when it come to decorating these, like wood burning or using different types of veneer.

Step 1: Material

For this project I used:
Veneer
Box cutter
Cutting mat
Painters tape
Super glue
A bowl
Hot water
Rubber bands
1/2 inch socket
Shop rag
Sang paper
A drill
A pencil
A ruler

Step 2: Cut

Cut the stripes I cut mine to to be about 1/2 inch wide by about 12 inches long.

Step 3: Soak the Strips

I soaked these in hot water that I microwaved. My guess is that the water was about 140 F. I soaked the strips for about 8 minutes

Step 4: Bend the Pieces

Bend the strips. I bent mine around a half inch socket.
Wrap the socket in painters tape sticky side out, then pull a stripe out of the water and dry it off with a shop rag, Now wrap the stripe around the socket and rubber band it there.
If you try to bend the wood and it starts to rip or splinter you need to let it soak longer.

Step 5: Ready to Glue

Let it dry a couple of hours or over night and take the rubber band off and sand the end to a fine point.

Step 6: Glue It Up

Now you're ready to glue. Gluing can be very frustrating, so take your time and be patient. I used insta-cure super glue. Cyanoacrylate is the chemical name.
It's very likely that you will end up glueing your hands during this process. I have glued five of these and glued my hands on every one.
The best way I have found to glue them is to put a small dot of glue at the tapered end and wrap it around what ever you bent it around with the glue out so that when its wrapped it gets glued. Hold it for about thirty seconds. After this I taped the other end to my work surface and applied a large amount of glue from the already glued part to about an inch from there. I continued doing this till the ring was three or more layers thick all the way around. Then I use a pair of scissors to cut off the extra veneer.

Step 7: Sanding

I used three different grits of sand paper 220, 320, and 400.
I started by sanding down the outside joint. Next I sanded the edges on the inside then the outside. The best method I have found for sanding the inside is to wrap my index figure in high grit sand paper, slip the ring over it and twist. If you want to make quick work of sanding the outside I recommend chucking a drill bit a little smaller then the inside of the ring and wrap it in a rubber band or two, slip the ring over this, try to get it on as square as possible. Turn on the drill and sand it.
This is what I did on the last sanding before finishing.

Step 8: Finish It

I used the super glue I mentioned to finish it.
I put the ring on the drill bit like before, applied a small amount of super glue on a paper towel and applied it to the ring while it was spinning.
You want to have the ring spinning before you start applying the super glue and after you stop.
Finishing it with super glue makes these very tough and gives them a nice shine.

Step 9: The Finished Rings

Here are some more pictures of the three that I have made. The one on my middle finger is ring size 8 1/2 to 9 the one on my ring finger is about size 8 and the one on my pinky finger is about size 6 1/2.
