Very Simple Blow Dart

This blow dart & gun is about as simple as you can get... All you need is an old shoe lace, a bic pen and a straight pin. They are fun and work really well, but can also cause damage and injury. This definitely qualifies as a DFO - or Dangerous Flying Object.

Step 1 Prepare the blow dart

To construct the dart, take the old shoe lace and cut it about an inch behind the plastic end piece. Then using a straight pin pull apart the lace into a bushy tuft of strings. Take a look at the photos to see how it should look when fluffed out sufficiently.
Next, trim the plastic tip as needed... it should be shorter than the pin to be used.
Once trimmed, push the pin from the tuft of lace through the plastic tube until it protrudes out the other end.

I can't seem to get the pin through the aglet. I push it as hard as possible, but it's really stuck and I can't get it through. Any suggestions?

ive been in martial arts for years and i came across this looking to build a cheap blowgun for ninja equipment. it is better than anything i can come up with! you can practically make this while on the go..and it has enough power to pirece walls! a pen and a shoelace you already have with you...if you have a needle your good. forcing the needle through was the only tough part. i modified the tube though, i broke down a lamp and put a bb loader as a mouthpiece... best weapon ive got!

i did not know this until a few days ago but the plastic part of a shoelace is called an "aglet". cool instructable!
