Introduction: Waffle Stitch Mug Cozy With a Heart Applique

About: Hello all!!!! A warm Welcome and It's a pleasure to have you here. Art and Craft is my passion .I love experimenting new and creative ideas.

Since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I wanted to add another cute Valentine’s Day themed pattern to my bucket list. I love making handmade gifts and I whipped up this quick and easy Waffle Stitch Mug Cozy. Giving a handmade gift on Valentine's Day is great because it shows that you took out time from your day to create something from your heart for somebody.

I wanted to make something useful which can used on a daily basis. I have used Waffle Stitch and have added a small heart as an embellishment which is cute and fits in with the whole heart theme of Valentine's Day. This is a very simple project that can be completed in less than an hour. It makes a great gift. The waffle stitch pattern is simply lovely and creates a nice textured look. The Waffle Stitch pattern resembles the texture of a waffle. This stitch looks great on any crochet project, be it a scarf, blanket, bag or washcloths and many more!!!!!!

Step 1:

Lets start by Chaining the foundation stitches. This pattern is very much adjustable. You can easily adjust this to a mug of any size by simply altering the amount of chains in the starting chain.

For Waffle Stitches the foundation stitches should be in multiples of 3, plus 2 more stitches for starting off.
Here, I have made 18 chain stitches, plus 2 more for starting off....that is total of 20 Chain Stitches.

Step 2:

1 Double crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook.

Step 3:

Continue with 1 double crochet in each of the remaining stitches.

Step 4:

Chain 1 and turn.

Step 5:

1 Double Crochet.

Step 6:

1 Front Post Double Crochet,Double Crochet in the next 2 Stitches.

To make a Front Post Double Crochet, Yarn Over, insert hook from front to back and to front again around the vertical post (upright part, just below the row)) of next stitch, yarn over and draw yarn through, yarn over and complete double crochet.

Step 7:

Repeat(1 Front Post Double Crochet,Double Crochet in the next 2 Stitches) .

You should have 1 stitch left at the end. 1 Double Crochet in the last stitch, chain 1 and turn.

Step 8:

1 Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches,Front Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches.Repeat (1 Double Crochet, Front post Double Crochet in next 2 stitches) all around.

At the end you should have 2 stitches left. 1 double crochet in the last 2 stitches.Chain 1 and turn.

Step 9:

Keep repeating these two rows:-

1 Double Crochet. 1 Front Post Double Crochet,Double Crochet in the next 2 Stitches. Repeat(1 Front Post Double Crochet,Double Crochet in the next 2 Stitches) . You should have 1 stitch left at the end. 1 Double Crochet in the last stitch, chain 1 and turn.

&

1 Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches,Front Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Repeat (1 Double Crochet, Front post Double Crochet in next 2 stitches) all around. At the end you should have 2 stitches left. 1 double crochet in the last 2 stitches.Chain 1 and turn.

Step 10:

Look, how the pattern forms!!!!

Step 11:

Now for making the Button Hole, make slip stitches till you reach the center.

Step 12:

Measure your Button and make chain stitches to make the loop for the button.

Step 13:

Slip stitch to the same stitch.

Step 14:

End the row with slip stitches till the end.

Step 15:

Sew in the button with a yarn needle.

Step 16:

Add a Small Crochet Heart applique as an embellishment. Check out the Pattern for the Heart Applique here.

Step 17:

There you go.....your Waffle Stitch Mug Cozy is ready to be gifted or just make one to pamper yourself with a steaming cup of coffee or tea!!!!!
