Introduction: Wall With Built in Shelves

While renovations were ongoing at home, there was a small wall space that did not look nice. So, I decided to cover that part with something.

Below are the materials that I have used:

1 sheet of quarter inch plywood

Screws and nails

wood filler

wood glue

paints

piece of glass

stone pebbles

Basic tools required:

Jigsaw and drill

Step 1: The Design

I decided to add some scattered shelf boxes on top and some cutting designs below the boxes.

Step 2: The Frame

I have drilled and screwed pieces of wood around the area that will be covered. Moreover, as 2 pieces of plywood were required to cover the area, I have also added some piece of wood near the area where the 2 pieces would join.

Step 3: Cutting the Plywood

After cutting the plywood to the required size, I have drawn the shelves on it. To cut the squares in the center of the plywood, I drilled 2 holes in each square and then, started cutting by inserting the jigsaw blade in the holes. The same technique has been applied for cutting the other designs.

Step 4: Fixing Everything Together - the Lower Part

I have added a frame around the 3 sides of the rectangular designs (excluding the top side) and then covered the framing with a piece of plywood. Now that the rectangular design had a pocket behind it, I added a glass pane and then filled the pocket with pebbles stones.

Step 5: Fixing Everything Together - the Upper Part

After measuring the space available between the concrete wall and the plywood, I have built the 5 square boxes and fixed it to the main plywood board with screws.

Step 6: Painting and Lightings

Now that everything was ready, it was time for the painting. I have used wood filler to hide any imperfection, sanded and then applied a coat of sealer. After this had dried up, I painted it.

For the lightnings I have used led ceiling lights.
