Step 6Low-Battery Output Option

There is an optional feature of the MAX1674 that enables an AA battery to supply usable voltages down to .7V. This option is called Low-Battery Output.

In order to obtain this Low-Battery Output option, you will need to connect to resistors to pin 2 (LBI). The values for these resistors are calculated according to a formula supplied in the MAX1674 datasheet.

does anyone knows how to calculate the values of each individual components in the entire circuit (e.g value if resistor, cap etc).
I interested in understanding the equation behind it...
can anyone help? thankz

Does anyone know if this will work as a cellphone or ipod charger? A'la Turbo Cell Charge and their AlgorChip[™] technology?

Yes. At least, just using a USB port to charge the devices USB standards are 5v, 500mA max, so it should work just fine for charging those kinds of things. Might be nice to put it in a big case with lots of AAs in parallel, or a D cell, and a USB port to plug in just about anything. It's a good idea to put a diode on output for USB devices though, because some products like Ipods will try to output power first.
