By popular demand I made the Weighted Companion Cube from Portal.

Step 1: Materials and tools

Picture of materials and tools

some sort of hardenable or bakeable clay
red paint
white paint
black paint
Silver paint (not necessary, I think it looks better than white though.)

cutting knife or blade

Step 2: Cube beginning

Make a cube out of the clay.
Use the blade to make a plus on each side.

Make 8 small equilateral triangles.
Push the triangles onto each corner and shape them.

Make 8 small rectangles.
Push them onto the edges between the triangles.

Make 6 small balls of clay.
Squish them and push one into the center of each side of the cube.

Step 4: Paint

Bake the cube if it is a baking clay, let it dry if it is a hardening clay.

If you want the edges to be silver instead of white, spray-paint the entire cube silver. Otherwise paint the edges, corners, and circles white.

Mix the black and white paint to make a dark grey paint.
Paint the low area between the edges and the circle grey.

Mix the red and white paint to make pink paint.
Paint a heart in the center of each circle.

Step 5: Don't let it die

Whatever you do, don't let your companion cube die.

was thinking of using solder for the cube's accents

The symptoms most commonly associated with Enrichment Center activities are superstition, perceiving inanimate objects as real, and hallucinations. The Enrichment Center would like to remind you that the Weighted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you, and infact, cannot speak.

oh god no... not in the oven again... i cant live with the guilt...
It's ironic that you have to bake these... kind of reminds me of...
Try doing this, if you can! ;-)
Impossible Cube... or is it.jpg
That's really easy.
Dam, that picture causes me physical as well as mental pain. Being insane (self diagnosed) doesn't help much. Ouch! But if anybody can succeed in making it work in 3 dimensions (or more if you feel it totally necicary) I want to know how. IQ_abyss
the only ppl who call call themselfs sane are the formally insane
i wonder what would happen if you told a robot that to be sane you are insane i bet its head will explode that would be fun to watch

...and those of us who call ourselves insane?
haven't you knowtist that every one who calls them self sane has some sort of norological disorder? isnane people just collect sane people and tell others about there collectons
...spelling errors aside... Nevermind, I can't do it. Seriously wondering did you 1) just not care, 2) use a really old voice-to-text program, or 3) do it on purpose to prove a point... Either those, or English isn't your first language, in which case, I'd applaud you for your sentence structuring and grammar constructions.
i'm partially autistic "aspergers syndrome" some times the way i type and read things is messed up an i speak 4 languages not including english and cajun french
I feel truly bad. I'm sorry.
we are all sane and insane at the same time
I may have a high intelligence quota but you my friend have wisdom. I bow to you, Ward_Nox.
You can actually build these, I've seen them. Can't remember where I saw, but obviously they don't work -quite- like the picture. A couple of the pieces are curved so that when you look at it at -just- the right angle it blows minds.
their actually not curved. theres an angled cut-out in two of the sides. Other than that its a regular cube. Just google Necker Cube. as far as the instructable goes: aww I was hoping for something machined out of metal. the small thumbnail pic was deceiving. I guess thats a compliment to the craftsmanship in a roundabout sort of way. lol.
Yeah theres two versions, one with a cut and one with curvy sides. Optical illusions are awesome, if you think thats cool you dont know ANYTHING.
epic mind ( insert 4 letter word here )
that IS COOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's not an Aperture approved weighted cube. That's clearly an M.C. Escher brand Companion Cube.
You divided by zero.

You can't do this and you know it. This is an optical illusion
'Course you can! Just add water. :D
No problem.
I just made one out of K'Nex, but it bends...
Easy, just take a--Oh my GOD!
That's the oldest trick in the book.
You just have to cut a section the size of the width of the section going through the front bar, and stand at the right angle... DUH.
no its called pho-to-shop
Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it have to be Photochopped. You can even buy thos things...
the bible.
lol jk
any optical illusions bookk.
