Introduction: Whale Pencil Bag

About: I love to sew, and other crafty thing.
I saw the most adorable fabric and I knew that I just had to recreate it. Plus the pencil bag I was carrying around has seen better days. So I killed two birds with one stone and make a whale pencil bag.

Supplies:
  • note cards
  • acrylic paint in orange, green, blue, pink, and white
  • black sharpie
  • craft knife
  • 8"in zipper
  • denim and cotton fabric
  • sewing machine
  • sponges for each color
  • hole puncher

Step 1: Note Card Whales

Start with your note card and draw a whale similar to the one I drew. Now you want to cut that out using a craft or exto knife.

Step 2: Sew It Up

First cut two pieces of denim fabric 7"inches by 9"inches. Starting with the orange paint I stenciled my first whale by holding down the note card while using a sponge to apply the paint. I found that one coat was good enough and moved on to the next whale in green. I repeated this pattern for both pieces of fabric and all the colors.

Step 3: Sew It Up

Using a hole puncher, punch a hole in the edge of a note card and stencil the eyes on with white paint. Once they dry draw in the black part of the eye. Then I free handed the water for each of the whales. Make sure that you don't place the whales too close together or their whale spout will be in another ones mouth so it doesn't look like it's eating it.

Step 4: Sew It Up

Place the top edge of the fabric to one side of the zipper and sew. Do them same on the other side. Repeat this for the lining and then sew a top stitch close to the zipper. Then pin and sew leaving a small hole to turn inside out as seen in the picture. Turn right side out, hand sew close the hole and enjoy your new whale pencil bag. :)
