What to do with your last match. by Oorspronklikheid
Seeing the instructables on fuses I thought I will make a similar one with just a length of string. This 'Fuse' took me 6 seconds to make.

Note this is not really a fuse.I'm only using the term fuse as I don't have a better way of referring to it

This is useful if you want to light several things like Cigarettes , fireworks and other stuff but you only have one match to do it all. I have attached a video to show how easy it is. This fuse is very safe and can burn for a long time but the cons is that it doesn't produce a enough energy for lighting bigger stuff (like charcoal ).

Step 1: Light your string.

Really all you need to do is light your string and kill the fire by shooting it with your finger or blowing it out(as shown in the video).

Disclaimer:Do this at your own risk.(not that it's a risky process)

If you have a box of matches you can cut off all the heads, grind them up and dissolve in water. Then soak the string in the solution and let it dry. That's how you can make an actual fuse. (Not sure if a box is enough or too many or what ever, I am just estimating at 1 box.

DO NOT DO THIS WITH STRIKE-ANYWHERE! THE CHEMICALS WILL COMBINE AND START A FIRE

Edit: This is a fuse not a punk.

Just soak the string in gasoline and.... better yet: spread gasoline liberally on surface and light with match so you can light up more strings which will light up more gasoline and.... nvm

I would light a candle

I'm really sorry, no offense, but this isn't an instructable.

Should I give him a FAIL sticker then?

You buy a lighter, and forget this ever happened.
codongolev says: Jul 8, 2008. 5:07 PM

hm.... so more an idea, than an instructional.
BenH says: Feb 20, 2009. 9:35 PM
Oh, you could probably make that into an instructable.

More than an idea, less than an instructable. So you're saying that it's a candle? Lol.
Thelonelysandwitch says: Nov 3, 2008. 12:41 PM

this is called a "Punk" and is often used to light multiple fireworks with one match. (Just to clarify)
!Andrew_Modder! says: Jun 12, 2007. 5:39 PM
an insents stick is better :-)
Plasmana says: Jan 2, 2009. 4:48 PM

Cool there's a term for it.

i don't mean to be mean or anything but... i think you should probably consider whether a lot of people would have already thought of what you re saying before you waste time creating an instructable about it. essentially, this is just lighting the end of a bit of string... everyone knows how to do that.

its just n ember but it works
ryanohal says: Aug 4, 2008. 12:42 AM
thats just a string isnt it
thatkidej says: Aug 5, 2007. 10:29 PM
I think being a little more specific on what type of string to use is one way to improve this instructable.. But I just don't get the point in general, there are easier ways. Like people said, incense sticks work good. Hell, twigs from outside would work. Even without a match, I'm sure you have a stove. What about a candle? The possibilities are endless..

thank u very much but fyi butcher string wiil work for a while
Oorspronklikheid (author) says: Sep 4, 2007. 10:00 AM
when i was younger and fireworks were legal we would go out with our fireworks with just the string for several hours.
duct tape says: Sep 3, 2007. 7:32 PM
Cotton string. Also, if you give it a light coating of sulfur it will work better.
$T.ars3nic says: Jul 30, 2007. 8:29 AM
Punk is a stick of compressed sawdust that burns extremely slow, used for igniting consumer fireworks.
teh_pyroazn says: Jul 2, 2007. 5:54 AM

thermitemaster says: Jan 20, 2007. 6:55 PM
wtf its a piece of string. not that great for fuses.
Oorspronklikheid (author) says: Jan 20, 2007. 11:36 PM
As I said its not a fuse
Jezza Bear says: Jan 21, 2007. 7:07 AM
Sorry, I was helping and showing another use for your idea. An enhancement as a fire starter or heat store is to use bound cord, or cord in a sheath, they are used as they are more difficult to put out in high wind.:-)
Oorspronklikheid (author) says: Jan 24, 2007. 10:26 AM
Don't be sorry this just helps to expand the whole idea
Jezza Bear says: Jan 20, 2007. 4:50 PM
This method is used by farmers to scare crows. In UK terminology a "crow scarer" is a small firework or banger. The farmer takes a piece of cord or thick string and weaves the fuse of the crow scarer into the cord, very simplyby pulling the thread apart and inserting it. They will do this a different distances apart , hangs it from a tree branch, lights the cord as you have and it smoulders, gets to fuse of scarer sets it off, BANG, smoulders, BANG ad nauseum. Useful method, but your string may need to bethicker as I have seen this thickness blow out easily.
Oorspronklikheid (author) says: Jan 20, 2007. 11:36 PM
I agree that the string should be thicker
