2. You're asking this on instructables.com?? This is the site where we laugh in the face of statements like "it's too hard" and "why". The correct answers are "try harder" and "because we love to make stuff!" (see http://www.instructables.com/id/Most-Useless-Machine/)
3. The payoffs for softmodding one's wii are far greater than the effort put into the modding. You can do so much more cool stuff with your wii once you can run 3rd party apps. Things like -playing DVDs -Turning your TV into an IR interactive whiteboard -playing your favorite DOS games with a wiimote -playing Nintendo 64 games long after you sold your 64. -and yes, of course you can also play pirated wii games too.
A better way to phrase your question would have been "What are the benefits of softmodding my wii - is it worth my time?"
