Introduction: Wooden Puzzle Heart

This is my first attempt at an instructable, so please don't judge too much. Anyways, it's a puzzle heart made from rosewood and I believe Douglas Fir. I doe not have to be made from these two woods, obviously, but it is best two have two woods that have colors that contrast each other,

Step 1: Wood

First step is two choose your wood. Make sure to get two pieces that are different different color and that are roughly the same width. Then, create a stencil of the figure that joins them together and trace it protruded on one piece and indented on the other so that the pieces will interlock. then trace it onto your pieces of wood.

Step 2: Cutting Them Out

Use whatever you have available: scroll saw, band saw, light saber, etc. to cut them out. I used a band saw to cut out the main shape and a drill press for the circular slot. Anyways, once you cut out the pieces make sure they fit by doing some tweaking. Also, it's ok if the pieces are somewhat lopsided because you can resolve that when you do the sanding.

Step 3: Sanding

After the pieces fit nicely sand the edges till you get the shape you want.

Step 4: Finishing Toches

After you have done the main sanding to get the shape, use fine sandpaper to get out the bumps and whatnot. Then once you are done with the sanding it is best to cover it in something that will keep it from cracking and make it shiny, I prefer olive oil but you may use whatever you like. These make great gifts and can be used as many different things from necklaces to paperweights depending on the size you make it.  Well that's it, I hope you enjoyed my first instructable. Let me know what you thought, if you have any questions, or if you would like me to do another.
