Sewing room layout and garage workshop details. We have managed to create some useful spaces for building and making in our small rental home. There is a 3 by 8 foot corner of our bedroom designated for sewing and other indoor type work, and a 12 by 20 foot uninsulated garage for everything else.
Most of what you see was built out of reused materials using a few basic hand power tools, like a circular saw, drills, and a palm sander.

Very good instructable! Very detailed and informative.. Good job. This proves you don't need a ton of fancy tool to make a very good work area (although I do love tools).

I like having the machine this way, as it creates a large outfeed area where there would typically be a wall. Ideally, I'd prefer to have more table to the left as well, so there'd be more room to manage large amounts of fabric. But this works fine for now. The actual table piece that the sewing machine sits on is mounted directly to the bigger table. It is made from some pieces of melamine and is screwed directly to the 4x4 table legs. (It took quite a bit of effort to get it level and square to the table top, as well as the right height for my primary machine!) The side portion of the table used to be part of the main table top, but I cut it off and mounted it to the side. (I'll have to get some more pictures up of the construction details soon.) The main part of the sewing cabinet is the board that holds the thread, bobbins, and a few tools. It is made from a piece of particle board on which I drew a grid, drilled holes, and inserted 2 inch dowels. It is mounted in the cabinet at a slight angle. I like the fact that it is behind doors and protected from dust. I hope this helps a little. Thanks for the comment!

These are some really creative ideas. I especially like the sewing room. Can you give any tips on how to recreate your sewing cabinet and sewing table? I've never thought to have my sewing machine turned sideways.
