Woven Back T-Shirt Mod

I decided to try another t-shirt modification and thought it would be nice and easy.  So, of course, it wasn't, but I like how it turned out.

Supplies:
  • T-Shirt
  • Thread signifies needle and thread (which would make this project harder) or Sewing Machine
  • Scissors
  • Pins

Directions:
  1. Cut off the bottom of the shirt and cut out the neck.
  2. Cut out the back from top to bottom along the side seams while leaving the sleeves intact.  Turn your shirt inside out.
  3. Cut the back piece into strips from right to left (so the short ways of the shirt).  You will need about 18 strips.
  4. Time to pin!  (If you consider one side of the strip front and one side back, make sure the front side is facing down towards the shirt so it will be right when you turn it back right side out.)

I started with numbers 1 and 2.  What you want to do is pin it to the bottom corner and then just see how far it reaches up on the other side of the shirt.  Mine went about halfway up which is where the 1 and 2 are.  Continue going up while alternating back and forth weaving your pieces as you go.  This takes a long time and sucks, but it will work out if you stick to it.

Sometimes you will have to unpin pieces and pin two in one spot (as in numbers 1 - 6 which connect to 13 - 18).  Also, make sure you are pinning it to the outside of the shirt; it is easier if you fold over the edge a little bit when you pin. (You can see this in Photo 8.)
  5. Sew!  This takes a while even with the sewing machine.  Make sure you are careful and try to sew the ends of the slips flat.  I used the zig zag stitch to make sure the strips would stay down nice.  Also, I went down the whole side instead of just sewing where the strips are.
  6. Trim the excess.
  7. Turn it right side out and wear it.

This is great! You could also use another color or even some ribbon for the weaving, for a different effect... or ooohhh what about that elasticky lingerie lace stuff? Hmmm... possibilities. Oh! i need to go to bed, not make t-shirt mods all night!! LOL

I totally agree! I was going to use a lime green ribbon, but I didn't have enough on hand.

So the front looks normal?

tech dawg is correct. I left the front alone, that's why I didn't show it.
