Wrist-Mounted Flamethrower

video Wrist-Mounted Flamethrower
This is a wrist-mounted flamethrower that I made.  I've wanted to make one ever since I saw the first Iron Man movie back in 2008.  It's very similar to other wrist-mounted flamethrowers online. I made a holder for the butane canister and the fuel release mechanism out of plexiglass and some steel rods.  The assembly itself is held to my arm using Velcro cable ties.  For my ignition, I modified a stun gun that I bought on Ebay.

I took pictures to write a full Instructable on this project, but earlier this week, there was a shooting at a high school near me, followed by two bomb threats in different nearby high schools.  In light of those events, I have at this point chosen not to make a comprehensive step-by-step.  I am confident that if you want to make a wrist-mounted flamethrower, you will be able to figure it out by looking at this and all the other videos of them online.

Thanks for watching!  Be safe, have fun!

Anyway I could buy one?

I recently made a basic stick mounted flame thrower to use to light a bonfire I was put in charge of. I had three days to design and make it, and it went off without a hitch. I now have until July to try to make one of these to top what I did at the bonfire. Between now and then is another bonfire where I will have a better designed flamethrower, but I want to have a couple of wrist mounted ones to be to surprise everyone with a burst of flames from my hands to use to light the fire. Is there any chance you can help me out with a design for a wrist mounted like this? My main issue with designs so far come in with nozzles and fuel control. I'm asking around for help. Any thing you can to help would be much appreciated.

Nozzles and fuel control?
Your nozzle can be anything, so long as it's made of metal/ceramic so that it won't burn or melt. Copper tubing, steel tubing, anything really, would work. As for fuel control, in this project it's only determined by how far I move my wrist back, which is all I was going for. I've seen other designs with electronics and servos, with buttons that are pressed by different fingers, which controls the fuel more precisely. There are literally hundreds of videos of people showing different versions of these on Youtube.
Hope this helped?
Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I've seen more videos than I can count, lol. I'm going for full mechanical control, which is simple enough it seems. The challenge comes in trying to design it so the butane canister can be on my belt. I'm trying to surprise everyone on the camping trip. A butane canister strapped to each wrist will make that difficult, lol.

Okay. Truth is, I had originally had the same goals, with no electronics, fuel on the hip, and an outlet on the wrist, so that it could be easily hidden. I even tried a mechanism similar to your bike cable idea using tubing and some rope, which didn't work at all. Having the butane canister on the wrist made for an easily-made mechanism to release fuel, and by finally mounting the nozzle on my palm instead of my wrist, I was able to not get singed as much.
I've been planning on putting the nozzle in the palm of my hand. Wrist seems goop risky, plus fire from palms > fire from wrists. Lol. It's just cooler. Um, literally and figuratively...

Hah sounds great. Good luck with your build, and be sure to let us know how it goes!
Maybe a cable, like a bike cable, can be used to run a control line... I could probably take tubing and a heavy line and run the line through the tubing to create my own cable. That's the only idea I've come up with so far.

How do you regulate the fuel output?
fozzy13 (author)  DiyAllDay2 years ago
The fuel is regulated solely by how far back my wrist is. As my wrist moves further back, the mechanism pushes further on the valve that is built into the butane canister, and therefore more fuel comes out.
Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the reply! Last thing- how did you achieve pushing down on the canister tip but still having a hole in it for the fuel to go through?
fozzy13 (author)  DiyAllDay2 years ago
There is a small hole that I cut through the lever on the mechanism that goes around the canister tip.  The canister tip gets wider as it gets closer to the can, therefore the hole goes around the thinnest part, but pushes down on the nozzle as the canister tip gets wider.
Hopefully these pictures are helpful as well.
If you get one of these working, be sure to upload some pictures for us!
