hmmmm, my xbox cable has a white, yellow, red, blue, and orange cable. Anyone have an idea on which ones go where?

I saw one of these where the author ripped out the internal chips and reconfigured the entire controller to be a standard HID. It was a ton more work.

Without splicing any wires of the xbox adapter or cord, can't you just solder the usb connections into the part that connects to the xbox? i can see five connections inside there (i'm guessing that the larger one is yellow?)
wouldnt that be better..?

I tried doing this to an aftermarket wired 360 controller because i lost the breakaway cable, but it only powers on for a quick second then dies. do you think wire gauge would have anything to do with this?

i tried wiring a USB end to my aftermarket 360 wired controller (because i lost the end) but the lights only flash for a second and then it wont power up, do you think the wires on the USB end could be to thin?

Nov 23, 2008. 8:46 PMYerboogieman says:
which prongs did you place the paper clips on? BTW, does the Xbox controller work well with N64 games?
Nov 24, 2008. 4:41 AMHungry_Myst says:
Check a few comments down, I mentioned which paperclip goes where in a reply. I'm not sure about N64 games, never tried it.

Nov 24, 2008. 6:46 AMYerboogieman says:
lol, if possible can you please try the N64 games? i found a spare controller i want to try this with but want info from someone who tried it and knows if it works or not. If need be, i have project64 and a game i can send to you. Your help is truly appreciated. -Koolaid_slammer

nintendo 64 works BEAUTIFULLY on it! think of it as a halfway between the N64 n Gamecube controller in regards of use!
Nov 24, 2008. 7:35 AMHungry_Myst says:
I would, but my xbox stuff is at my parents house, which is an hour and a half drive from my university. From what I can recall the xbox controller looks like a regular joystick to the computer, so there isn't any technical reason why it wouldn't work. It probably depends on the game, whether the xbox controller button layout is usable.
Oct 5, 2008. 8:34 AMelectronic boy says:
i did not do this i cut the cable and joined the usb cable and the xbox cable together but you need a double pole switch to turn off the 2 data ports on the xbox cable otherwise it is not recognized by windows.
Jul 13, 2007. 2:12 AMGmastefluffy says:
That was a really neat idea. Does it work well?
Jul 13, 2007. 11:22 AMHungry_Myst says:
The paper clips? They work great. You need to be careful about them moving/shorting together when you move the connector, but I've never had a problem with it. It's a great temporary solution if you don't want to cut up a controller cable.

i think he meant, do these controllers work on an xbox 360. and im curious myself, do they work?
Aug 1, 2007. 12:11 AMRocket Boy says:
there are 5 connectors, which 4 do the paper clips go on?
Aug 1, 2007. 5:04 PMHungry_Myst says:
If you hold the connector towards yourself, with the contacts on the bottom; from left to right: The Black USB wire goes on the first contact, skip the second contact, Green USB wire on 3rd contact, White wire on 4th contact, and Red wire on the 5th contact. Hope that makes sense.
Sep 27, 2008. 11:00 AMburning_feather says:
can you use this xbox controller for your xbox 360?
Oct 1, 2008. 2:05 PMRocket Boy says:
the interface on the 360 controller is a little different, but i guess it doesn't hurt to try. i use one controller that got it's cable hashed for my computer, i just soldered usb straight to the pcb where the original cord went. it might work on a 360, i'll try it and see.
Aug 3, 2007. 12:49 AMRocket Boy says:
Thanks, really great idea for those without an extra controller.
May 17, 2007. 10:47 PMhack124x768 says:
I've used that tecnique for a few things, nintendo DS charging, [s]nes controller connection (without killing the controller), etc. This is the first time I've seen someone use them on a usb plug. Nice.
