Step 7 Reassembly

Put the Xbox 360 back together carefully. Make sure the rear fan is plugged in, the fan shroud is correctly in place, and no wires are being pinched. When placing the DVD drive back into the case you might need to wiggle the CCFLs wires to fit in safely (Don't forget the SATA cable).

Follow the disassembly directions backwards, and if everything turns on, kudos! Enjoy your newly lit Xbox 360.

If you're still feeling adventurous in your Xbox 360, try modifying the Ring of Lightor cutting a window.

You cut that yourself? Wow! Nice case, and what are those blue cathodes? 3000mcd? lol!

 Yep, cut the window with a dremel, and placed in a plexiglass window.

I'm not sure how much light that CCFLs output, but it's far more than 3000mcd, that's the amount of a really dim LED. Since it's not a projected beam of line (like an LED cone) you wouldn't use mcd (which is based on light density per area projected), but rather lumens (a nice raw measurement of light intensity, which is used it pretty much any lighting measurement besides LEDs). Whatever it is, they're really bright.

Thanks for the compliment, I put a lot of effort into making my Instructables thorough, easy to understand, and interesting. My next tutorial will be building a high-performance gaming computer from scratch (Around $2,000 for everything), though I'm going to wait until after-Christmas for both money received and inventory sales. I want to do the cold cathode and the RoL mod definitely, but I think I don't have that much experience with soldering to do the RoL. I think I'm getting a smoke black case, blue cathodes, wisper max fan, xcm core coolers (v2), pulse VU 2 x and of course a blue RoL. Still trying to get more info about how to connect all the lights to the PulseVU 2 x to make it work like I want it. Have you got any experience with it? Great tutorials and good luck with your gaming PC. 10/10

Pulse VU 2x isn't meant to be attaching CCFLs to, its more for beginners to have custom pattern ROL LEDs and for really hardcore modders who stuff the case full of LEDs. For the 150 LEDs they advertise supporting, you wouldn't want to power them all from the Xbox 360 capacitors it advertises. Capacitors, voltage regulars, and other sources of 5volts are meant to do certain jobs in the 360, and minor leeching of power is ok, 3 amps of LEDs is not =). For those modders they would get an external power supply, 1 plug powers the 360 and the other is lights. It looks pretty simply though, just give your LEDs electricity from a source, and all of the grounds go to the negative pad on the VU.

 I was enthousiastic about your tutorial, because I think the LED's don't give a smooth lighting, you can just see the points were the light is coming from. I wanted to light my XBOX up very smooth, with the same amount of light everywhere in my XBOX. I hope the CCFLs are compatible with the PulseVU, otherwise I'm just going to do it with LEDs.
