Contest WinnerFeatured
This is a Xbox Hackintosh. I had an old and broken xbox so i decided to put a pc in to it and install hackintosh to it. This is a "guide" which gives you the basic idea how to stuff all in there and what parts to use... This is my first instructables and my main language is not english so this might be a little grumby but here it goes...

First of all your going to need a Xbox to put the pc into. Just open all of the screws from the bottom of the xbox and pull the top up from the console. Once the top is off, pull out the stuff from the inside including the metal frame.

Comming this week: How to make a tablet pc out of old laptop!!!

Not sure if it had allready been addressed but it is snow leopard, not snow leobard but i can see that in the instructable there are both spellings so i assume you are aware,

i congratulate you on your effort converting the language, and with few spelling mistakes, i know if i was to try typing in finnish i would fail and it would not make sense

Best use I've seen for an Xbox yet.
Treknology says: Nov 13, 2011. 5:56 PM
In response to everyone who has replied to my comment (below), I would not do this to an xbox, because I would not want to own one. The only way it would come into my possession would be part of a bulk transfer and even if it worked, I would convert it into ANYTHING else, even a front door step.
avngrboy says: Nov 12, 2011. 8:03 AM
maybe im missing something, but how is this the best use for the xbox? Isnt it gutting out the xbox and putting in a pc to run the mac OS. Have you seen the stuff where you can turn the xbox into a Media Center?
coolwithpie says: Jun 22, 2012. 7:22 AM
Yeah My friends uncle is a computer guru and he put media center and LAN networking on the xbox. He also put a bunch of games (THAT HE PAID FOR) on it.
mkarvonen (author) says: Jun 26, 2012. 7:11 AM
you dont have to be a guru to do that kind of simple thing. been there done that.
coolwithpie says: Jun 29, 2012. 8:51 AM
With the original electronics?
mkarvonen (author) says: Jun 29, 2012. 12:27 PM
Yes. also moding that console takes about hour. and for bonus you can run linux on it. so its not a big trick about it. you just have to know what you are doing.
coolwithpie says: Jul 13, 2012. 6:44 AM
Sorry Im not trashing on your instructable its really cool i just think the xbox is a good media center device
mkarvonen (author) says: Nov 12, 2011. 5:46 AM
and it sucks
The nerdling says: May 2, 2012. 4:41 PM
well, that's mean
Treknology says: May 4, 2012. 11:42 AM
I'm bagging the xbox, not the 'ible.
The nerdling says: May 4, 2012. 9:55 PM
ok
avngrboy says: Nov 13, 2011. 11:19 AM
Well, i think you might have been doing it wrong. The xbox can have a digital library of music, pictures, and movies. You can also add emulators to any old system including MAME. If you dont like the xbox why use the case?
mkarvonen (author) says: May 5, 2012. 10:54 AM
i mean the xbox sucks at being a media center device. there are 1000000 better ways to do the media center better. So in this case Xbox sucks but as a game console is good. would rather use nes if had one but it burned so...
coolwithpie says: Jun 22, 2012. 7:25 AM
ITS AN AMAZING MEDIA CENTER DEVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! see my reply to avngrboy.
furrysalamander says: Nov 12, 2011. 11:29 AM

how well does Mac OSX hold up on those specs? is it fully functional? or are some elements missing?

i notice on your picture you dont have the dock... are all the visual themes working? like windows max/min and all that?
canucksgirl says: Nov 11, 2011. 3:35 PM
He may have had the dock hidden, which can be done through system preferences. I have mine setup that way and it expands when you mouse over the area. (I use a lot of apps and don't like seeing them all the time.) ;)
mkarvonen (author) says: Nov 12, 2011. 5:46 AM
i have the dock in use but you cant see it in the picture. (light reflection in the screen)
mkarvonen (author) says: Nov 11, 2011. 6:48 AM
everything is working perfectly. the only thing was USB that wasnt working perfectly. but i got it to work with trying difrend setup.
lyxDeslic says: Nov 11, 2011. 3:31 AM
bump :)
leggomylegoeggo says: Nov 11, 2011. 4:30 PM
I'm fairly certain that comments (on this site) don't need bumping.
Kryptonite says: Nov 11, 2011. 5:41 PM
You'd be surprised how often amazing comments just disappear!
lyxDeslic says: Nov 12, 2011. 5:01 AM
I wasn't saying "bump" in the intention of getting this instructable more hits. In all honestly, I don't fully understand the term and I've only seen it used once.

With that being said, I was trying to say

"I am wondering the same thing that dgleeson mentioned in the previous comment about the specs"

in what I previously thought was the shortest term possible.

Thanks for your kind replies anyway!... :-P
Kryptonite says: Nov 11, 2011. 10:36 PM
Hehe, sorry about that :P

Bump, on Instructables, is used to bring up that comment thread to the top, and also brings up community topics for others to see. Commenting with anything does the same thing, but saying "bump" shows that you did it for the soul purpose of 'bumping' it up for others to see.

It looks great (if of course you like xboxes) but may I sugest you mention "casemod" in the title, you'll get better ratings that way.
mkarvonen (author) says: Nov 9, 2011. 9:02 AM
thanks for the reply :D i think that i might chance that title :)
mkarvonen (author) says: Nov 9, 2011. 9:07 AM
do you have something else in mind than xbox??? :D
wakojako says: Nov 11, 2011. 12:28 PM
No I was just saying that if you don't like xboxes, you won't like this ible. As far as future ideas go; ikea hack, table (wiimote multitouch?), make a net-top, wifi pineapple on steroids?
klau1 says: Nov 10, 2011. 9:46 PM
I remember seeing something like this on youtube. It's a great video work log.

Ok, I don't know next to near jack-didlly-squat about making computers and all that jazz... Is this something that a totally noobie can do?? Or is there something that I should try to do first before I try this?? By the way I like the Xbox Idea, it's exceedingly creative, I also just like the whole idea of the project. Is is like a Mao with more capabilities or something else?? Thanks for making and posting this my friend. :D
acoleman3 says: Nov 10, 2011. 9:45 PM
well....i can tell you for assembling the computer components you'll want to get and study a book on laptop pc repair and upgrades. the book should help along that front.
jfunk1 says: Nov 10, 2011. 9:04 PM
so its an OSXbox?
Chris01 says: Nov 10, 2011. 6:29 PM
How is this a Hackingtosh??? The term was coined around 1990 or a bit earlier in a series in Computer Shopper (when it was tabloid sized). They were sticking compact Mac motherboards into terminals I believe. There was also the Colby Mac that appeared in radio electronics. I'M ALL CONFUZZLED!
mkarvonen (author) says: Nov 10, 2011. 6:32 PM
wat? what is your point?
