Start peeling the skin back from the body. I find it easiest to pull it at a right angle. You might have to wiggle the knife around under the skin a bit to help part it from the flesh.



When you get to the legs you have to slit the skin from the center of the body out towards the feet. It helps if you make a circular cut around the ankle/wrist.

haha. i totally butchered my first squirrel. actually, it was the first thing i'd ever skinned. right now it's sitting in a homemade tanning solution, so it'll probably be rock hard rawhide when my tiny bit of pelt comes out. i with i'd taken another look earlier at this. i totally cut open its gun and had intrails falling out of it. most anoyingly, salvaging it after that made fleshing it a really crummy job.

If you have a scalpel from high school or college biology (or whatever other unsavoury source), using it to part any connective tissue holding skin to muscle helps. Use a _light_ scraping motion.
