I asked for a review of Magic Morse and wound up having to build another one to submit for review. I took pictures of my original prototype and even a few movies I posted on YouTube, but this time I needed an extensive collection of pictures to document the steps in fabricating the project. Here is the original article: http://www.instructables.com/id/Morse-Code-Magic-An-Algorithm/

Hunter - Gatherer - Both?
A few days before I started, I did a quick survey to see what parts I needed. I already have the Magic Morse micro-controller (see original article link in previous section if you need one), so I created a quick list which is often called a bill-of-materials, or BOM. here it is:

PART ____________ Supplier (price)

  • PICAXE uC for Magic Morse...............Magic.Morse@gmail.com....($20.00)
  • Solderless breadboard.......................Sparkfun @ Microcenter.......($$6.95)
  • 2-line by 16 character serial LCD......Sparkfun @ Microcenter......($26.95)
  • Telegraph Key by Philmore.................Willy's Electronics Supply....($$9.99)
  • MainStay's Poly Cutting Board for base....WalMart...........................($$3.95)
  • Misc. electronic parts: resistors, capacitors, transistor, 78L05......Junk-box & Radio Shack....($12.00)
The schematic shows the main Magic Morse PIC, switches, LEDs, and power supply. The additional circuitry for the code practice oscillator is here: http://www.sentex.net/~mec1995/circ/morse1.htm Sorry I cannot simply post, but I have not received reprint permission. The PDF file contains additional circuit details and operating instructions.
