this is an instruction on how to create a box that houses a small recording/playback module that matches a public bathroom interior.

Step 1: What You Need...

this is what you need to make one of these.

enough tile to at least cover electronics (we used a 6"x6" piece from Home Depot)

enough styrofoam as tile that is at least a little thicker than a 9V battery (we got it from A.I. Friedman)

twice as much posterboard as styrofoam (you need a oiece for the front and back)

one recording module (you can get them here )

9V battery

knife

spoon

pen

sharpie

tape

velcro pads

!!! once you get all that cut the tile, styrofoam and posterboard to all the same size !!!

Step 2: Making Space for Electronics...

put the electronics on the stryrofoam and trace around with a pen. we took off one of the tiles so we positioned the buttons to be in that space.

Step 3: Chop the Styrofoam...

scrape out the styrofoam in the lines with your knife.

NOTE: do a very little at a time. keep checking. you only need enough so that just the buttons are above the stryofoam.

Step 4: Chop Up the Back.

now you need to make a space in the back for battery and the wire from the module to the battery.

so. start scooping out that styrofoam. this is where you use the spoon to really get out a lot of styrofoam. once you got it deep enough for a battery, stop.

now take a pen and cut out a canal in the back for the battery wire. make sure the canal stops underneath where the electronics will be on top.

now take a pen and jam a hole through the styrofoam from the front to the back. make sure the hole's wide enough to push the battery connector through.

Step 5: Tape Stuff Down

now, you need to push the battery connecting wire through the hole you've made from front to back.

next, tape down all the electronics on the front. we also use a little super glue. just make sure it pretty secure but you don't need to cement it or anything.

leave the speaker untaped though

cut out pieces of posterboard where the buttons are.

now, cut a slit in one piece of posterboard and pull the speaker through.

now tape one of the pieces of posterboard over the whole thing.

if you did it right, the speaker and buttons should be visible but none of the styrofoam on top.

glue the speaker to the piece of posterboard

Step 6: Glue Down the Tiles.

put glue all over the back of the tiles and set it on top of the whole apparatus.

next,put glue in between the tiles also.

next, put a bunch of wieght on top of it and leave it to dry for a few hours.

it should look like this.

Step 7: Do Up the Back

after the whole thing's dry, flip it over

tape down a piece of posterboard on the back. we used white gaffer's tape.

now, feel the back and find the spot where you dug out the battery hole.

cut a tab in the posterboard over that space and insert the battery and connect it.

tape down the tab.

now add the velcro. don't seperate the velcro. just take adhere them together to the back.

Step 8: Finish Up

now, take your sharpie and draw on the front.

now, go into a bathroom and take off the other sticky side of the velcro and slap it on the wall.

it's a cool little thing that doesn't damage property.
