one of the most annoying thing in my workshop is the tools that i can't find ,even if its in front of me .I am not really an organized man but when in it comes to screwdrivers and pliers it drives me nuts to search them on my workbench ,so i decided to make this small tools organizer

Step 1: Design

The goals list:

Easy and simple to build
Small and compact as possible
Holds the tools that i use more often
Build it cheap

After some paper drawing i ended up with this design ,which i think is the best
The dimensions depends on what you got, you don't need to stick with the exact dimensions
If the longest screwdriver you have touch the ground and you don't have a wider wood palette you can go with the other design with a longer
The only thing a got in mind is wood ,and where can i get it? o yeah pallets!

Step 2: Equipment and Material

Equipment :

Hand driller or a drill press
Wood cutting hand saw
Wood file
Hummer
Ruler
Some sandpaper
Some wood glue
Screwdriver
4 mm drill bit for pilot holes
8 mm drill bit
10 mm drill bit
10 mm mill

Material :

Pallet
4 wood screws
2 nails
varnish

Step 3: Sawing

start by the cut number 1 then in order 2,3,....., you can alter the cutting steps but this is the easiest way i think .
for the last 2 pieces you may need to make them from thicker wood if your screwdrivers touches the ground

Step 4: First Drilling and Sanding

Top piece

Make a center line on the top piece then line up all the socket set on it ,make some space between them and with a pen mark the center of each one.
Start drilling halfway pilot holes with the 2 mm drill bit then go with bigger diameter that matches your socket set , i hadn't a drill bit for the bigger holes so i drilled them with the bigger one i have then i enlarged them with a 10 mm mill.

Bottom 2 pieces

Make a center line on the bottom of the 2 legs then mark the vertical piece width
Drill pilot holes with the 2 mm drill bit then make counter-bore with the 4 mm drill bit
With the wood file chamfer the edges to give them a nice look

Sanding

For the pliers to hang stable, i make a chamfer with the wood file in the vertical piece ,make sure to let a retaining end so the pliers don't fall
Sand down all the pieces especially the jointing surfaces

Step 5: Assembly

put some glue on the top piece and fix it on vertical piece with 2 screws
put glue on the bottom of the vertical piece then fix the legs with screws
Let the glue cure

Step 6: Final Drilling

the number and the diameter of the holes depends on your screwdriver set

Mark the location of your screw driver, the longer ones in the rear and the shorter in the front
with the 2 mm drill bit drill pilot holes then drill all the with 4 mm drill bit
Now drill with the 8 mm drill bit holes for the other big screwdrivers

If your flat head screwdrivers have a head that is bigger than the shaft ,you will need to enlarge its holes, and this will make your screwdrivers lean in an angle ,so what i deed is adding 2 nails to help them stay in a vertical position
As you can see in the picture i made holes for screwdriver's heads ,i don't use them but i put them there to use that space
