Introduction: Bic Crossbow

Picture of Bic Crossbow

After playing around with the Bic bow and arrow, I came up with this little modification.

Step 1: Materials

Picture of Materials

Clothespin - Honestly any sort of clamp will do. The stronger it is, the longer you can make the shaft.

Pencil - Can be replaced for something longer. See above.

Bic bow and arrow - use a big thick rubber band, it makes things shoot a LOT farther.

Step 2: Bow and Arrow

this is how to make the bow and arrow. I wont get into those details here, so go make the bow and come back to step 3 after that.

Step 3: Finishing Up

Picture of Finishing Up

Tape the clothespin (or clamp) to one end of the pencil. make sure the clamp end is facing towards the opposite end of the pencil.

Use more tape to attach the bow to the other end of the pencil. See pictures for details.

NOTE: if you wrap another rubber band around the cloths pin, you can make make the clamp stronger. if that doesn't make sense, just ignore this - its not essential. try it if you are having trouble getting the projectile locked in place.

Step 4: Loading/Firing

Picture of Loading/Firing

load the ink cartridge just like you do for the bow and pull it back so it clips into the cloths pin. aim, and fire!!

Load the ink cartridge just like you would with the original bow. Pull the rubber band and "arrow" back and clamp it in your clothespin (or whatever you decided to use).

To fire, just release the clamp, and watch it go!

If you wish to prevent picture blur, use better lighting so your digital camera uses a sorter exposure. An instructable is only as good as its pictures.

vishalapr (author)2011-07-20

Hey this is really cool! Have a look at my catapult and crossbow I made with clothespins, thought maybe you would like it!

crazytalkingtree (author)2010-06-21

what if you dont have a clothespin what do you use then?

k.bipin (author)crazytalkingtree2011-07-13

If you don't have anything... then use YOUR HANDS to do it...... it works better....

Use any sort of clamp, as long as it is strong enough to hold everything together.

jeffbud98 (author)2011-07-11

sooooooooooooooooooo awesome but wat is some other ammunition i could use

k.bipin (author)jeffbud982011-07-13

just take some old pen refils... or ballpen refils.. sort of ...for ammunition...

mr.origami (author)2010-02-21

i almost got caught at school by the f***ing principal me and my friend made like ten of these and we had a war at school and when ever the teacher turned around we sarted shooting each other then my friend shot at me and as soon as it the crossbow the principal walked in announcing a lockdown and almost caught us

was the lockdown because a student was found dead in the hall with a pen-sized hole in his neck?

jackcade (author)facilitator4762011-07-10

I think so

bz2892 (author)2011-03-29

this is too cool

d3mond00d (author)2011-03-22

Use the base from and the pull string to fire, and this design, and then you can conceal it in a loose sleeve =P.

dphung (author)2011-03-22

What does it shoot??

d3mond00d (author)dphung2011-03-22

The ink cartridge... Although skewers work too. XD

Stripes003 (author)2011-02-06

I built these all the time in elementary school. Big hit on the playground

zrocker (author)2009-06-04

this is frikin awzum! I used a razor blade, and the blade went through 1/2 inch thick ply wood! Ok, prepare yourself for this next part: this sounds pretty unbelievable but... well i was outside near the birdfeeder and a bird flew about 15ft away from me. I shot the razerblade crossbow, and it stuck in the frikin bird!!!!!! it flew away squaking!!!!!! (i nvr did get that razr blade back, though..)

JAY-G (author)zrocker2011-01-22

Rimwulf (author)2010-07-30

How about instead of using pens for ammo use bamboo skewers and cut them down. You can make a BB gun that can do the same thing or better I got it from this video:

PopeLeonidus (author)2010-04-23

I found this project on a different website, so I tried it myself, creating Russel McBacksington.  It was alright.  I added duct tape stabilizers which went from the crossbar to the clothes pin.  That didn't do much, just looked cool.  There was a height difference from the barrel to the clothes pin, though.

So, I worked on Rodger Babbington, Russels older stepbrother.  Rodger has a raised crossbar and clothes pin, eliminating the height difference.  I wrapped athletic tape around the pinching part of the clothes pin, reducing misfires.  I also added my own personal touch, a handle with a quill attached.  It is absolutely EPIC.

awesome stuff man. ima try it.

cubyrop3 (author)2010-01-22

if you want to stab what you said check out my instructable.

Colonel88 (author)2009-12-13

Instead of pencil put ruler and instead of  clothespin put black binder clip.

Ruler is moar stable and binder means it is 100% from office supplies.

chaosmagus (author)2009-10-15

I made something like this, i didn't have a clothespin, soI improvized a hook that pulled up when I pulled on the end. Greatfun, I shot all my pencils at my classmates.

MotorMan2 (author)2009-06-11

On step 2 the pic didn't show up you sure you put one.

gdtripp (author)MotorMan22009-10-02

click on the words "this it the model i used to make the cross bow." it'll take you to the bic bow and arrow instructable :)

Blood Wolf (author)2009-09-24

where is the pic I need to see the model in order to build it.

phanjonathanm (author)2009-08-21

dude lol i had none of the right equiptment...
i used no clamp thingy ittl be finger,
a sharpened pencil(up 2 papermate),
athing where u pull the pen out,
and a broken rubberband and it works fine
good job =D

Sgt Fenix (author)2009-06-12

I made this; if you add different rubber bands you can get it to shoot extreme distances(for a pen crossbow) i got mine to shoot 100+ feet

Beyondalllimits (author)2009-04-20

i used an Mid sized office clamp instead of the clothing pin its stronger, and it stays closer to the pencil. the only problem is that its pretty wide, and hard to tape down

6joshuaherring6 (author)2009-03-16

LOL i made one at school coz everyone was throwing pencils so i made a crossbow that shot pencils point first. i won in one shot. it embeded itself into the plaster and everyone crapped themselves . to make them more powerful you can use a longer barrel and the royal mail red elastic bands. in the end i converted to fireing bbs and shotgun pellets through tin cans.

red-king (author)2008-11-18

this is like a macgyver type thing lol.
