Just had a 'duh!' moment; Cut the butter and throw it in the bag cold. Let it get soft and warm and then squeeze. No fuss, no muss!

Great idea, and well put together instructable!

A few suggestions for enhancement:

Cut the butter into small cubes and leave it sitting out at room temp for an hour or two. It will be good and soft: a bonus in that it will still be perfectly emulsified (retaining better butter flavor) and not so hot that it will leach nasty chems from the stick applicator. You can then scrape it into a one-quart zip top baggie, cut off one of the bottom corners, and squeze into the applicator (no leaks!).

Or... you can make your own butter (check out http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Butter-and-Buttermilk/ ) It will be soft and ready to go into your brilliant applicator.

If you like to cook eggs or veggies in butter, as I do, but don't like using too much, as I do, you could use your applicator to smear just enough in the pan to coat. Would also work for applications to baking pans and casseroles!

lovin this idea!
This is a fabulous idea - it'll also work for things like lotion bars, solid shampoos, soaps - I'm going to use the hell out of these. Thanks!

Sensational idea - it makes greasing cake tins and trays a breeze. I would personally look for some kind of non-toxic kiddy glue to use as a container. Kids eat that stuff all the time, whereas the idea of eating (food from a former)deoderant container is a bit off. I'm sure the deo container is fine when cleaned though.
