Try to use a turn on/off button. You can use it like as manual as well as ps2 component cable via the remote handles.

Could someone remove this 'ible before someone actually tries it and does fry their PS2?
tastyklean says: Aug 9, 2008. 11:05 AM
touching the +5v and GRD of any usb device can cause unrepairable damage. capacitors, resistors and other common components will fry and if you haven't looked at a PS2 or PC mother board I'll let you in on a little fact. Most of these components are tiny. if you are dumb enough to do this go ahead prove me right. i did this by accident on a XN900 EPOS System, lost the touch screen and usb support £1500 worth of till system in the bin.

same happend to an ipod someone brought me to fix, they thought it was a good idead to short 2 pins to make an old accessory work
cody777 says: Feb 11, 2011. 11:15 PM
this is not smart you need to find a new hobby cuz ur going to kill your ps2

One of my friends ran wires from his Eject button and Power/Reset button and stuck pushbutton switches on the end. Safer and smarter, though it looks terrible. Uses the original buttons, one neatly drilled hole in the case, and works perfectly.

could you possibly explain it further?, AND couldn't you just cut a male to male end usb cable in half and use both halfs?
Big Nasty says: Apr 13, 2009. 1:20 PM
a hammer could also work effectively :D
senario 158 says: Feb 21, 2009. 7:15 AM
uh, if it is not a slim, it should have a switch on the back.
admiral001 says: Feb 15, 2009. 10:32 AM
Horrible idea, just use the power button, thats why its there
jimjam8994 says: Feb 13, 2008. 8:42 PM
Couldn't that fry the ps2 and destroy it's battery because you are short circuiting the battery.

Actually the PS2 does have a battery, a 3v Sony branded Lithium Cell CR2032
Derin in reply to SirDalvionJul 9, 2008. 4:35 AM
bios cell?
SirDalvion in reply to DerinJul 9, 2008. 7:07 AM
That would be it
Derin in reply to SirDalvionJul 9, 2008. 7:15 AM
yes,i thought mobo+cr2032=bios chip instantly

yay smart people, im not alone!!!
armindilo says: Nov 29, 2007. 6:07 PM
ummm...I think this is working by shorting the power supply, which then shuts itself down cuz its BAD for it! I think this could eventually lead to your ps2 powersupply failing. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Derin in reply to armindiloJul 9, 2008. 4:36 AM
the 8.5V is not in the case, but there is a 5V somewhere in that part
Keeter says: Nov 30, 2007. 3:00 PM
It's just as easy (and SO much safer) to just tap into the lines for the actual power button and use that instead. That way it can turn on/off/reset just like it does now. (Of course it's not as simple because the button doesn't use conventional wires)
Sandisk1duo in reply to KeeterDec 5, 2007. 7:17 AM
my friend's on/off button broke, so now he has wires hanging out the power button port( wired to the circuit with the button )

Apart from this being a really bad idea for the health of the ps2, another way is to shove a key into the port. i do it all the time to people at school that i hate. Lol
camb00 (author) says: Nov 30, 2007. 6:01 AM
it does not afect controller port memory card port or enything wat it is the usb controller thinks hey this is gonna blow so turn it self off it hasnt broken my ps2 yet.........will update when it does
zm634 says: Nov 29, 2007. 9:25 PM
Yes, this is a VERY BAD idea. You will easily blow out the USB controller doing this, and my guess is that the controller also handles the dualshock controller inputs, or maybe the memory cards. It does something important. Anyway, for those out there who are going to try this... Just don't.
Doctor What says: Nov 29, 2007. 6:07 PM
You know, if you added a switch, and ran it from the playstation to a table/nightstand, it would be easier than getting up and actually turning it on. Just a step lazier from actual gaming. Remotely turning on your PS2.
