this instructable will show you how to easily make a perfect quarter pipe with:

4: sheets of 1/4 inch 4 by 8ply wood
6: sheets of 1/2 inch 4 by 8 ply wood
11: 2 by 4s each 5 ft 11 inches long
2: 2 by 4s at least 5 ft long.

if you want to build a 3 ft half pipe use 3 sheets of 1/2in ply wood. by over lapping the curves.

building supplies:

skill saw or carving saw
table saw circular saw or hand saw
drill
200 - 300 2 inch screws.
a hammer might come in handy.

Step 1: Drawing the pull in

1.jpg
get 6 1/2 ft of non stretchy string and a pencil

and a 6 ft board and a few screws

screw the 6 ft board into the ply wood so it looks like my picture.

make sure there is an inch of space on the ply wood between the board.

now for the string

go to the top of the board and measure one inch down from the top and but a screw in to it.

now tie your string onto the screw

and on the other end tie a pencil make sure the pencil is perfectly on the bottom of the ply wood as seen in my picture.

now keep the string pulled taught ,the pencil strait up and go up and down a couple times until you get a nice smooth line. that looks like mine.

now if you're going to use coping or not draw a little notch in the top to put your coping into if you're using a 2 inch tube make the notch 1 1/2 inches each way.

for a quarterpipe you should only need 2 sides for any width up to 8feet wide. if you want to build anything wider, you will want to cut all the sides at the same time so they are identical or close enough, and build 2 seperate sections. I used to own a skatepark and built many of the ramps. We also used 2 and 3 inch drywall screws to assemble the ramps, nails wiggle loose or back out over time, deck screws usually strip out before they are completely tight.  to bend the plywood for the curve without cracking or breaking wet the plywood with water for about an hour to soften it up. if you use 1/4 plywood use 2 layers and layer them perpendicular for added strength

Well spoke, sorry my designs were pretty flawed... what I was aiming to do was add only one sheet of plywood in the center with notches cut out but that would have been too hard to explain and stuff so I decided to do the double layer.
pizzabloke says: Mar 10, 2011. 4:37 PM
do you really need the piece of plywood in the middle of the ramp for support? it would save tons of money.
the_burrito_master (author) says: Mar 12, 2011. 3:11 PM
I think u do but u could easily get by with one instead of 2 if you cut out some notches in the sheet and fit it into the rest.

This is a good little learner ramp.

If you're looking for and actual quarter pipe, as in half of a mini ramp or half pipe, I wouldn't use these instructions.

This ramp is too mellow to really be considered a quarter.

If you want a quarter, i'd go with something like this quarter i built which is a little steeper.

Your surfacing looks tricky, why not just overlap it more simply than put all those extra cuts in?

But, Really, nice work.
carsonwc says: Jan 10, 2011. 1:18 PM
surfacing the second layer like i did allows you too use less wood on the second layer, and because you're dispersing the bend across a larger area, you can use a thicker sheet of ply for the second layer.
the_burrito_master (author) says: Jan 12, 2011. 5:57 PM
Depending on if it's 8 ft wide. but it looks like I'd make it bumpy.
carsonwc says: Jan 12, 2011. 6:40 PM
doesn't make it bumpy at all, i think it actually makes it smoother. This mini ramp we built in my friends backyard was plyed the same way and it's perfect.

That Weasel says: Aug 30, 2009. 5:59 PM
how wide is it?
jesus jelly says: Aug 1, 2009. 9:53 PM
you should put up a picture of you using it so that we know its awesome...
cbrown222 says: Mar 1, 2009. 1:24 PM
and if you want to make it more secure on each of the planks going across you could drill holes then countersink them so its flush
the_burrito_master (author) says: Mar 2, 2009. 11:22 AM
yeah. you can even use roofing brackets that helps a ton.
cbrown222 says: Mar 1, 2009. 1:19 PM
how much does this cost
the_burrito_master (author) says: Mar 2, 2009. 11:21 AM
$200 - $300 at the most. it might even be less.
the_burrito_master (author) says: Mar 2, 2009. 11:20 AM
Roughly 250 to 300. it should be on the cheep side in this economy.
pandaboy292 says: Dec 6, 2009. 10:34 AM
how in the world does that cost anywhere near those ammounts? plywoods like $8-$15 a sheet. and that pipe would be like $10. do you live somewhere where supplies are expensive?
sick_f#ck says: Feb 18, 2009. 11:05 AM
nice one.im gonna try this one
the_burrito_master (author) says: Feb 19, 2009. 12:37 PM
I would really appreciate it if you could take pictures of your progress. like in my instructable hen I could add a real picture for each step.
sick_f#ck says: Feb 25, 2009. 2:30 AM

the_burrito_master (author) says: Feb 18, 2009. 5:54 PM

the_burrito_master (author) says: Feb 6, 2009. 1:37 PM
Program called True space.
k3y3l3e3 says: Jan 5, 2009. 3:36 PM
i think you should put the railing on the inside of the ramp so that if you hit it hard you dont know iot loose and fallthrough
the_burrito_master (author) says: Jan 5, 2009. 6:34 PM
dud it's totally supported ,and it's bolted in there.
k3y3l3e3 says: Jan 6, 2009. 4:43 PM
o ok because i was just suggesting

nicely done!
GorillazMiko says: Aug 26, 2008. 7:18 PM
That's freaking awesome.

My friend has a huge quarter pipe, it's like this, except it doesn't have that landing place, and it's much much steeper.

Awesome job, the images really help, I'll see if I can ever make this.

+5/5 stars.

By the way, do you have any pictures of yours, if you have one?
Rye2121 says: Sep 15, 2008. 3:10 PM
hey do u work for the i'ble community? if so can u ask ewilhelm to send out a contest about making ramps rails and more for like sk8 boarding, biking, and scooters, atvs, dirt bikes and anything else. i really want to see an i'ble on how to make a halfpipe... Thanks, Rye2121
