this is an easy ipod charger for the kind of people who don't want to spend alot of money. The only thing you need is a PS2, USB ipod cord, and your ipod.

Step 1: The put together

The first thing that you want to do is to put the ipod, and USB cable and put them together. Then after that plug the USB cable into the USB port on the PS2.

if you have an iPod, chances are you also have a computer. so why not just plug the Pod into the comp instead of a ps2?

some people that use this site have friends that don't have computers(dinosaurs)so they do this its what i do at my dads because he is a dinosaur

Back in Feb there was some question as to the value of an Instructable that teaches you how to use the charger wire that comes with the iPod. I would have emphasized it differently. The point I would have made is that if you are going to charge your iPod on a computer that is already associated with a different iPod (say, your friend's computer), you should know that the iTunes on the friend's computer will erase all the music on YOUR iPod and replace it with the music from the iTunes on the friend's computer. ITunes assumes that every iPod that gets plugged into it wants to have that iTunes' library. Thus the point of an Instructable like this would be to show you how to recharge your iPod without using a computer that might already have iTunes.
Gage987 says: Dec 30, 2008. 10:42 AM
actually that doesn't do that if you manually manage music like my mom,my sister'and i all have ipods and we don't have any music on our computer at all because we manually manage

the great part about having an xbox360(sorta RRoD)is charging it and you can play it on the tv while you play games like i have a special playlist for CoD modern warfare
AzureEyes says: Oct 27, 2008. 6:58 PM
I tried it too, didn't work either, but i think I'll try again though, I don't think I followed the instructions correctly. For the record I have a Slimline PS2
rkr says: Aug 30, 2008. 4:05 PM
the only problem is... this doesn't work at all, at least it didn't on the new slimline ps2.
eljamo says: Oct 11, 2008. 11:54 PM
i do it all the time on my slimline ps2, the problem is that you have to have the ps2 on to power the usb ports

This is the best thing EVER! I reccomend this idea because i dont want to go on my computer every time i want to charge my ipod. Easy to under stand instructable, THank You.
tubbychick3n says: Aug 19, 2008. 7:25 AM
yeah, this can be done with any system that has a usb port i think. i know it works for xbox 360, but i'm not sure about wii.
Nicrostar says: Aug 23, 2008. 4:52 PM
it works with a wii :)
tubbychick3n says: Aug 23, 2008. 11:28 PM
yeah, i figured that it would.
maraouiandre says: Aug 11, 2008. 9:09 PM
to tell u the truth thats kinda ovious sry
I3uckwheat says: Jul 10, 2008. 11:50 AM
and i couldn't turn it on unless i took the battery out then put it back in
I3uckwheat says: Jul 10, 2008. 11:49 AM
i tried with my sansa and good thing it didn't effect the warranty because the blue ring was stuck on
danc11 says: Jul 3, 2008. 7:19 AM
Or... you could do this with the wii which does n need to be on, just in standby mode. Works the best :)
rerat says: Feb 20, 2007. 9:03 PM
Yeah..this is pointless. Using thr IPOD cable to charge..the IPOD isn't anything..at all. ALL usb ports work the exact same way..I mean anyone with a decently new computer has plenty of USB ports, plus you can't eject the ipod from thr PS2 port.
kellster_deluxe says: Jun 15, 2008. 10:32 PM
rerat says: "you can't eject the ipod from thr PS2 port" The Ipod (or any other device) doesn't "connect" with the PS2, it only uses the power supply from the usb thus no need to eject.
acidbathchik says: Feb 22, 2007. 7:01 AM
ya know if ya dont buy it from apple a wall charger that connects to the ipods usb cord is like less than $10.00. i hated charging mine through our computers because i hate itunes and use rockbox on m ipod which can change the background themes(mines mario bro's now) and it has a game imulator so i can play doom, sudoku,i've got about a hundred games on mine i can play, so if you have a video ipod like me rockbox.com is awesome. but ipods kinda suck me and guy tried returning after christmas for a wii, no luck . gifts from apple that are engraved who knew, it was actually the barcode wouldnt scan but man we tried. archos is way better than ipod my guy has one and it has a camera on it,video, plenty storage and we use it on soundboards for back up audio when recording bands and filming..--Tal

jamnoopers says: Sep 9, 2007. 8:04 PM

pdlbooboo says: Sep 11, 2007. 8:20 PM

jamnoopers says: Sep 11, 2007. 8:34 PM

Swert says: Jun 14, 2007. 6:47 PM
Wow, you didn't get off topic or anything. Although I do like rockbox, I think you should have stopped after your first sentance.
mallmaniac147 says: Aug 4, 2007. 2:45 AM
so if you can charge it just using that cord is it possible to play your ipod through the tv just using the basic cord?
SinisterFairy says: Aug 3, 2007. 7:43 PM
Thanks for the help, my friend doesn't have a computer but he has a PS2..so when I go over there I have something to charge my ipod on.
Swert says: Jun 14, 2007. 6:45 PM
I would like to point out you can do the same thing here with a wii.
Choose a Username says: May 3, 2007. 12:40 AM
it says "if you don't want to spend a lot of money" PS2 on list.....?
Brennn10 says: Feb 20, 2007. 8:51 PM
Do you know the amount of voltage coming from the PS2?
Ian01 says: Feb 22, 2007. 10:01 PM
USB is always 5V
!Andrew_Modder! says: Feb 21, 2007. 7:47 PM
ya 5 volts dood (multimeter)
Brennn10 says: Feb 21, 2007. 8:18 PM
Thanks just makin sure, cuz thats how much comes outa a computer. So thanks.
!Andrew_Modder! says: Feb 21, 2007. 7:48 PM
yeaaaaah. Well anyway i also charge my iPod by my Digital Cable box (in the back middle theres 1 usb port) heh cool
aquax says: Feb 21, 2007. 2:13 AM
It also works with a TiVo Series 2 or 3, with the USB ports on the back. If your cell phone has a USB cable, you may also be able to charge it via a PS2 or TiVo.
Fenwick says: Feb 20, 2007. 9:28 PM
this is actually a good thing to point out, that you can use any device to charge an iPod through the usb cable. Does this work if the PS2 is in standby (red light on)?
SirGrok says: Feb 20, 2007. 9:25 PM
The policy here is to be nice and leave constructive comments. Hum... I better leave this one alone. (Just kidding, kind of) Using a USB cable to charge something through a USB port isn't the sort of thing that needs instructions. If you look around this site, there will be pleanty of tutorials that will show you how to construct you own ipod charger out of batteries and basic soldering of circuits. That is the sort of thing that is typically candidate for posting to Instructables.
LasVegas says: Feb 20, 2007. 8:59 PM
What a concept! Use a iPod USB Cable to charge an iPod! I'm gonna have to make a note of that one!

All USB ports supply 5v at 500mA. This is standard. You can even charge your iPod with the USB ports on your DVR (Digital Video Recorder) or Printer (The front Camera port).
acaz93 says: Feb 20, 2007. 8:52 PM
Also you can use the ipod as a external hard drive and save and/or load data P.s. : You Can Put this in your collaboration
