Introduction: Find Hidden Stuff in Windows Xp

today i will show you how to find hidden music, two retro media players, and this weird star wars thing in cmd on windows xp.

Step 1: One of the Songs

first, i will tell you how to get to the first song. it is buried in c:/WINDOWS/.
1. put cursor over start button
2.right click
3.select explore
4.click on local disk (c:)
5.click on WINDOWS
6.then look for system32 and click on that
7.then look for oobe and click on that
8.then look for images and click on that
9.then scroll down and look for title.wma
10.click on it and listen

Step 2: The Other 3 Songs Plus Windows Sounds

1.keep explorer open and click on WINDOWS again
2.look for the folder called media and click on that
3.you will see many audio files. the three songs are the ones that have .mid on the end, and all the windows sounds have .wav on the end. click on the files to play them.

Step 3: The Star Wars Telnet Thingy

1. open up command prompt (go to run in start menu and type in cmd and then click ok)
2.type in towel.blinkenlights.nl
3.this star wars thing will play

update:

i had a person point out that the star wars thing is not on windows xp, but actually is on a server somewhere on earth.
Therefore, you need an internet connection to view it.

Step 4: The Media Players

and now i will show you how to find the 2 old versions of windows media player in windows xp.
to get to the first one, look around in system32 and you will see something called mplay32. click on it and it will open up.

OR

go to run and type in mplay32 and it will open up. note-this one can not play video.

to get to the second one, go to run and type in mplayer2. this one can play video.

Step 5: Tips and Troubleshooting

tips: i must clarify that some of this will only work in xp. some works with vista and windows 2000/me, but i will only tell you if you ask by commenting. i will probably check this intructable frequently for the next two or so weeks.

PLEASE DO NOT MODIFY, MOVE, OR DELETE ANY OF THE FILES IN C:/WINDOWS/. YOU COULD DAMAGE YOUR SYSTEM. I AM NOT LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED TO YOUR SYSTEM BY MODIFYING, MOVING OR DELETING ANY OF THESE FILES. ALL YOU CAN DO TO GET TO THEM QUICKLY IS TO CREATE A SHORTCUT ON YOUR DESKTOP. if you think you have corrupted something, click on drwaton in system32. it will detect faults.

troubleshooting: if you get a blue message saying that these files are hidden, just click show files anyway.

if you cant find anything, just try again and keep on searching. because they are there. just sometimes a little hard to find.

if you cant find a c:/ drive with windows on it, look for whatever drive your windows partition is on for example, it could be e:/WINDOWS/ or f:/WINDOWS/ instead of c:/WINDOWS/.

Step 6: Sources:

for the first song, i found directions on youtube.ca.

for the telnet star wars thing, i found directions on youtube.ca.

the other 3 songs i found my self although there are directions on youtube.

i found the first media player my self
