Introduction: Fischertechnik Jack-o-Lantern

My second instructable:
How to create a Jack-o-Lantern using fischertechnik elements

I play with different educational manipulatives for a living. (Visit www.weirdrichard.com). Over the years I have built different holiday-themed models using all sorts of toys. It is easy to create awesome Halloween models with fischertechnik elements...especially as many ft elements are black and red. This instructable will describe how to create a fischertechnik Jack-o-Lantern.

Note: The CAD looking images were generated by LDraw/MLCAD and a fischertechnik elements library.

Step 1: Collect the Parts!

Step 1: Gather elements:

You will need to gather your elements. The fischertechnik elements are available from a range of kits available from a fischertechnik retailer, and the specific elements can be purchased individually from www.fischertechnik.com.

The List:
21 Angular Blocks 60 Degrees (#31010)
8 Angular Blocks 15 degrees (#31981)
1 Spring Cam (#31982)
13 Building Blocks 30 (#32879)
4 Building Blocks 15 (#32881)
2 Building Blocks 5 (#37237)

Step 2: Begin the Jack-o-Lantern

Slide a Angular Block 60 on top of a Building Block 30. Attach two Angular Block 15s on each end of a Building Block 30.

Step 3: Continue the Jack-o-Lantern

Slide a Building Block 15 onto the pin of the Angular Block 15 on the left. Insert the pin of a second Building Block 15 into the groove of the first Building Block 15. Add a Building Block 30 on the right.

Step 4: Continue the Jack-o-Lantern

Insert the pin of two Angular Block 60s into each end of the model. Add a Building Block 30 onto each Angular Block. Set the assembly aside.

Step 5: Continue the Jack-o-Lantern

Begin the top section of the Jack-o-Lantern's grin by connecting two building Block 30s together. Slide two Angular Block 60s onto the Building Block 30s. On each end of the Building Block 30s, Add in order a Building Block 5, and two Angular Block 60s.

Step 6: Add the Upper Part of the Grin

Slide the mouth assembly onto the model.

Step 7: Continue the Jack-o-Lantern

Add a Building Block 30 onto each side of the assembly. Set the assembly aside.

Step 8: Make the Eyes

Create two eyes by combining five Angular Block 60s.

Step 9: Finish the Eyes!

Add a Building Block 15 onto each eye assembly. Note the orientation of the Building Block 15 pins.

Step 10: Add the Eyes!

Slide the eye assemblies onto the model.

Step 11: Continue the Jack-o-Lantern

Add in order to each side a Angular Block 60, Building Block 30, two Angular Block 15s. On the left Angular Block 15, insert a Spring Cam. Set the model aside.

Step 12: Create a Pumpkin Stem

Create the pumpkin stem by connecting three Building Block 30s at right angles to each other.

Step 13: Add the Stem to Finish!

Slide the stem assembly into the gap at the top of the model. Your fischertechnik Jack-o-Lantern is finished!
