Introduction: Fischertechnik Scorpion

This was my project for the Instructables Gift Exchange!

(The author this gift was designed for belongs to a "scorpion hunting club".  Sending an original model of a scorpion seemed to be the perfect author gift!)

Note: Images created in MLCAD/POV-RAY.

Step 1: Step 1: Gather Parts

To construct the scorpion, you will need the following:
12  Angular Block 30 degrees
18  Angular Block 60 Degrees
10  Building Block 15
8    Building Block 30
2    Building Plate 15x30x5 with 3 Grooves
1    Link 30

fischertechnik parts are available online through their website, or can be hunted down at ebay and other websites.

Step 2: Step 2

Connect (in order) a Building Block 15 and two Building Block 30s. Add an Angle Block 60 onto the end.

Step 3: Step 3

Make the scorpion legs by combining an Angle Block 30, Building Block 15, and an Angle Block 60. Create eight legs, and slide them onto the body structure previously made.

Step 4: Step 4

Create a claw by combining two  Angle Block 60s on a Building Plate 15x30x5 with 3 Grooves. Add this to a Building Block 30, and then an Angle Block 60. Create two claws. Create the head of the scorpion by combining two Building Block 30s with a Link 30. Add two Angle Block 60s onto the blocks. Fix a claw assembly to either side of the head.

Step 5: Step 5

Add the head/claw assembly to the body of the scorpion.

Step 6: Step 6

Create the tail of the scorpion by combining in order Angle Block 60, Building Block 15, Angle Block 30, Building Block 30, Angle Block 30, Building Block 30, and two Angle Block 30s.

Attach the tail onto the Angle Block 60 located at the end of the scorpion body.

Step 7: Finish

The finished scorpion. I was also able to create a nifty wolf using the same part inventory!

My kids loved this model! We enjoy building with fischertechnik as a family.
