Introduction: Fischertechnik Thanksgiving Turkey Model

How to create a Thanksgiving Turkey Model using fischertechnik elements

I play with different educational manipulatives for a living. (Visit www.weirdrichard.com). Over the years I have built different holiday themed models using all sorts of toys. It is easy to create awesome Thanksgiving scenes with fischertechnik pieces and parts! This instructable will describe how to create a fischertechnik Thanksgiving Turkey!

Note: The CAD-looking images were generated by LDraw/MLCAD and a fischertechnik elements library.

The Thanksgiving Reuse Challenge:

Step 1: Gather Elements:

You will need to gather your elements. The fischertechnik elements are available from a range of kits available from a fischertechnik retailer, and the specific elements can be purchased individually from www.fischertechnik.com. They also come up for sale on ebay often.

The List:

13 Angular Block 60 Degrees
2 Angular Block 30 degrees
1 Large Pulley 60
1 Hub Nut
3 Link 15s
8 Spring Cams
10 Building Block 30
13 Building Block 15
1 Flat Hub Collet
2 Building Block 15x30x5 with Groove and Pin
1 Single Rivet 4
3 Building Block 7.5
5 Mounting Plate 15x30
2 Mounting Plate 30x30

Step 2: Turkey Legs

Begin the turkey's legs and feet by sliding two Building Block 30s onto the pins of two Building Block 15x30x5s.

Step 3: Turkey Legs

Connect three Building Block 7.5s in a row using two Link 15s. Add a Spring Cam to the central Building Block 7.5.

Step 4: Turkey Legs

Connect the two Building Block 30 assemblies with the Building Block 7.5 assembly.

Step 5: Turkey Body

Center a Building Block 30 on the the Spring Cam. Insert a Spring Cam into the end of a Building Block 30.

Step 6: Turkey Body

Slide a Building Block 15 onto each end of the Building Block 30. Add a Angular Block 60 onto each end of each Building Block 15. Note the orientation of the Angular blocks (one set of Angular Block has a pin and the other has a groove oriented upwards).

Step 7: Turkey Body

Add a Building Block 15 to each of Angular Block 60s.

Step 8: Turkey Body

Insert Spring Cams into the ends of two Building Block 30s. Slide the Building Block assemblies between the two sets of Building Block 15s.Add four Angular Block 60s on top of each Building Block 15. Note the orientation.

Step 9: Turkey Body

Insert Spring Cams into the ends of two Building Block 30s. Slide a Building Block 15 onto each end of the the Building Block assemblies. Note the orientation. Slide the assemblies onto the angular blocks located on the model.

Step 10: Turkey Body

Add Angular Block 30s on the Building Block 15 located at the front of the model. (These will serve as wing supports).

Slide four Angular Block 60s on top of the Building Block 15s. Note the orientation of slots and pins. Set the model aside.

Step 11: Turkey Neck, Head, and Beak

Begin by inserting a Spring Cam into the end of a Building Block 30. Add a Building Block 15 on both ends. On the far end, insert a Spring Cam perpendicular to the block.

Add the "neck" by inserting a Spring Cam into the end of a Building Block 30 and fix it to the first Building Block 15. Slide a Building Block 30 onto the Spring Cam.

Slide a Rivet 4 onto the bottom of the Building Block 30. Give the turket a beak with an Angular Block 60, and finish the turkey's head with a Building Block 15 on top of the Building Block 30.

Step 12: Turkey Neck, Head, and Beak

Insert the neck and head assembly between the angular blocks on the model. Set the model aside.

Step 13: Turkey Tail

Create the turkey tail by fixing a Flat Hub Collet and a Hub Nut on a Large Pulley 60. Fix five Mounting Plates 15x30 onto the pulley.

Step 14: Turkey Tail

Add the tail section to the model!

Step 15: Turkey Wings

Finish the turkey by adding two Mounting Plates 30x30 onto the Angular Block 30s!

Make multiples and have a Thanksgiving flock observe the festivities!
