im goin to teach you to make an easy lamp that appears to float from the wall and is super easy to make all you need is one of those compact flourescent bulbs hot glue cardboard a cat play cube that they can go in and out of ( i got this from walgreens for 3 dollars) and 2 or more thumbtacks and a corner.

now what your gonna do is your gonna hot glue the mechanics for the lightbulb on to a piece of cardboard bigger than the hole in the cat toy thing.

Probably not the best lamp for a household with cats. A cat may decide to jump in and tear the thing off the wall.

Your project looks perfectly safe, heat-wise. A FL tube will not generate that much heat in that size of space. Plus your cat box also has large openings to let heat escape.
