Introduction: Giant Moustache Stick-em's

About: Build.Share.Destroy.Repeat. Follow me and try a few of my projects for yourself!

Moustaches are pretty funny already but giant moustaches are even better, especially places they don't belong. I took some discount fabric and discarded cardboard to make giant moustache stick-em's, moustaches that can be attached anywhere, instantly transforming anything into instant moustache awesomeness!

I made a few really big moustaches to go on large billboards and advertisements around town, then made smaller ones from the scraps to go on smaller signs found at bus stops and malls.

Enough talk, let's moustache!

Step 1: Tools + Materials

Materials for this project are easily obtained and inexpensive:
  • brown or black fabric
  • cardboard
  • rubber cement
  • duct tape
  • marker
  • scissors
I found this fabric in the clearance section of my local fabric retailer,  I got 1m for $5.00. All the cardboard I found in dumpsters near where I planned to do my moustache-bombing. I spent about an hour over breakfast making a whole pile of moustaches, large and small.

Step 2: Make Moustaches

To make these stick-em's I cut the cardboard into rough rectangular shapes, then drew on moustache shapes.

Smear paste on opposite side of cardboard with moustache outline, then drape fabric over paste and let dry. If you apply a thin coat of cement it should take less than 3 minutes to dry, then cut out moustache shape along the outline drawn earlier.

Repeat for as many moustaches as you like (hint: more is always better).

Step 3: Indiscriminately 'stache

With a bag full of assorted moustaches styles and shapes I was ready to hit the town and use up all my moustache stick-em's. I used rubber cement and tape to stick these mondo moustaches on any face I could find.

My travels took me all over the city, no one was safe from a random moustaching.
  • Starbizzle - 'stache'd!
  • Chinatown gateway lion - 'stache'd!
  • Mall signage - 'stache'd!
  • Real Estate Agent - 'stache'd!
  • Metro advertizements - 'stache'd!
  • Military pilot gear display figure - 'stache'd!
  • High end menswear mannequin - 'stache'd!

Step 4: Continue Moustaching

  • Oh yeah, I also moustache'd a giant Simon Cowell. Take that!
  • I found a beautiful spray paint mural outside a Japanese restaurant, so I obviously 'stache'd it.
  • Even a billboard model for a fashion store was powerless to stop a moustaching.

The moustache wants what the moustache wants; and the moustache wants to be all up in your face.

Step 5: In Closing

Whether large or small, bushy or sculpted, real or faux, applying moustaches to things is pretty fun.
I left behind me a wake of newly sprouted moustaches and a trail of confused onlookers. I even had few compliments about my own rakish moustache which I grew just to undertake this silly project; always a plus.

Happy 'staching!
