Picture of homemade paintball gun
This is my first Instructable so please excuse me if its not the best. This Instructable will show you how to build an air gun that will shoot all kinds of things. (I know the title is homemade paintball gun but i havnt tested it with paintballs yet. I hope they dont just pop in the barrel.)Mine cost about 13$ but it may cost more or less. Plus i already had the cement and primer.

Step 1: Gather materials

Picture of gather materials
YOU WILL NEED.....
1 TIRE REPLACEMENT VALVE (THE THING YOU PUMP AIR INTO ON A TIRE)
1 1IN PVC END CAP
1 3/4IN PVC BALL VALVE
1 3/4IN PVC NIPPLE
1 1IN TO 3/4IN PVC REDUCER
2 1IN PVC TEE
2 1IN 90 DEGREE PVC ELBOWS
A LENGTH OF 1IN PVC 6 FEET SHOULD BE ENOUGH
FIGURE OUT HOW LONG YOU WANT THE BARREL...
YOU WILL NEED A PIECE OF 3/4 IN PVC THE LENGHT YOU WANT YOUR BARREL
IF ANY OF YOUR PARTS SCREW ON THEN YOU WILL ALSO NEED PLUMBERS TAPE

*MAKE SURE YOUR PVC IS PRESSURE RATED. IF IT RUPSURES YOULL PROBOBLY BE IN THE HOSPITAL HAVING PVC DUG OUT OF YOU. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR AANY DAMAGE YOU DO. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. TREAT IT LIKE A REAL GUN.

Step 2: Build it

Picture of build it
THE FIRST THING YOUR GOING TO DO IS CUT SOME 1IN PVC. YOU NEED TO CUT TWO IDENTICALPIECES THAT ARE ABOUT 1 FOOT LONG. (NOT EXACT BUT MAKE SURE THEY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME LENGHTH OR IT WILL BE HARD TO CONNECT LATER.

ALSO IF ANY OF YOUR PARTS ARE THREADED COVER THE THREADS WITH PLUMBERS TAPE.

Step 3: START CEMENTING

Picture of START CEMENTING
IM GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE CEMENT AND PRIMER REAL QUICK. YOU BRUSH THE PRIMER ON BOTH THINGS YOU ARE CONNECTING AND THEN DO THE SAME WITH THE CEMENT. USE WAY MORE THEN YOU THINK YOULL NEED WITH BOTH. ITS ALRIGHT IF IT RUNS OUT THE SIDES.THEN JUST PUSH THEM TOGETHER AND APLLY FORCE FOR ABOUT TEN SECONDS.

NOW WE ARE GOING TO CEMENT ELBOWS TO BOTH SIDES OF ONE OF THE PIECES WE CUT IN THE PRIVIOUS STEP. THEY BOTH NEED TO BE POINTING THE SAME DIRECTION OR IT WONT FIT WHEN YOU CONNECT IT LATER. REMEMBER THEY HAVE TO BE POINTING THE SAME DIRECTION. THE PICTURE BELOW IS ONE HALF OF THE WHOLE PIECE YOU JUST MADE.

Step 4: THE OTHER PIECE

Picture of THE OTHER PIECE
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Pictures\logos 073.jpg
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Pictures\logos 074.jpg
NOW YOU ARE GOING TO DO THE SAME THING TO THE OTHER PIECE BUT USING TEES THIS TIME.ONE SIDE SHOULD LOOK LIKE A "T" ON ITS SIDE. THE OTHER SHOULD LOOK DIFFRENT. I DNT KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE IT BUT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT FROM THE PICTURE.

NOW CEMENT YOUR REDUCER INTO THE END THAT IS POINTING TO THE SIDE.

Step 5: CONNECT THE TWO

Picture of CONNECT THE TWO
NOW YOU NEED TO CUT TWO PIECES OF 1IN PVC THAT IS ABOUT 2IN LONG. THE 2 SHOULD BE IDENTICAL. NOW CEMENT THEM INTO THE TWO ELBOWS. SOME OF IT SHOULD STILL BE STICKING OUT. NOW CONNECT THE PIECE WITH THE TEES SO THAT IT MAKES A BOX LIKE THE PICTURE BELOW.

Step 6: CONNECT THE BALL VALVE AND BARREL.

Picture of CONNECT THE BALL VALVE AND BARREL.
NOW SCREW THE THREADED NIPPLE INTO THEREDUCER. THEN SCREW THE BALL VALVE ONTO THE NIPPLE. THE BARREL SHOULD THEN CONNECT RIGHT ONTO THE VALVE.

Step 7: FINISHING UP

Picture of FINISHING UP
DRILL A HOLE IN THE END CAP THAT IS ABOUT THE SIZE OF YOUR TIRE VALVE. ATTATCH THE TIRE VALVE TO THE END CAP AND SEAL IT WITH SUPER GLUE.

WHILE THATS DRYING CUT A PIECE OF 1IN PVC ABOUT 3/4 OF A FOOT LONG.
CEMENT IT TO THE OPENING IN ONE OF YOUR TEES. ONCE YOUR END CAP HAS DRIED CEMENT IT TO THE END OF THE PEICE YOU JUST ATTACHED.

Step 8: FIREING INSTRUCTIONS

Picture of FIREING INSTRUCTIONS
YOUR ALL DONE. YOU NEED TO WAIT ATLEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE FIREING. WHEN READY TO FIRE DONT PUMP IT ALL THE WAY UP TO 100 PSI (WHICH IS WERE YOU WILL FIRE IT). I WOULD RECOMEND A TEST AT 30 PSI.
WHEN PUMPING MAKE SHURE THE BALL VALVE IS SHUT AND IF THERE ARE AIR LEAKS YOU WILL HAVE TO START OVER. DONT TRY TO PATCH THEM.

NEVER SHOOT LIVING THINGS INCLUDING YOU OR YOUR FRIENDS. IF YOU DO THEY WILL PROBOBLY BE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A LONG LONG LONG LONG TIME. REMEMBER ALWAYS TREAT IT LIKE A REAL GUN AND ALWAYS TREAT IT AS IF ITS LOADED.

HAVE FUN AND SATY SAFE.

DONT SHOOT ANYTHING YOU DONT WANT BROKEN.

3/4" pipe is good for holding paintballs.Bt who in here has ever played paintball? Paintballs are .68 caliber. 3/4" pipe has a caliber of .75 . It would fire, but i wouldn't be accurate and would waste alot of air.Nice instructable though. F.Y.I. I have played 30hrs of paintball. 40 welts total
I have played for 5 yrs I play 2-4 times each month I have a professional team. I have too many welts to count I have been shoot by anti tanks ( rocket launchers that shoot foam rockets that dent metal bunkers that hurt like heck!!) and most every gun I have a planet eclipse ego that cost me $1200 with out upgrades! now before you say that 3/4in pvc don't have accuracy... have to used a sch. 80 pipe as the barrel it is the exact size fora paintball to fit in. now I have modded one of these and use steel fittings&its devastating as a mortar or sniper !! I say great Instructable!! PS use treaded parts and steel parts!!

I built a mini air cannon for launching AA batteries. I used steel pipe and I can pump it up until the circuit breaker trips because my dad's cheap dollar store 12 volt pump draws in too much power.

Are you serious. AA batteries ? This thing is a ticket without return to hell.
I have played for 2yrs. I play 1-2 times a month and I play at an arena in my area. My gun was $20.00 and I love it. It's a Viewloader Lancer semi auto and I can fire it 7bps. It hasn't broken and it is easy to use.
I've got one. It's really good.
haha yeah i just got my gun i saved all me money for it ! i started out using a VL high voltage taking to every tourny i go to! ive used it and beat many losers with ions and egos and x-7 and all those other expensive guns!! its not the gun that counts it the shooter! thats what all the JT pro players told me at a tourny i went to !!'

Paintballs are not necessarily .68 caliber. They range from about .65-.78 caliber.

is this gun really powerful, because i play recball and dont want anything to powerful i have a tippmann tipx that works perfectly

its a little weak but it may work

Ha, yeah, don't shoot at anything you don't want broken. My dad said "Shoot it at the door" for my test shot. I didn't like the idea of putting a big dent in the door and having a ball bearing ricocheting around our garage, so I shot it at a dirt pile we've got.
Its called a BB or in this gun a "Paintball"
Roceifin4 years ago
and please tell me how its supposed to shoot?....it looks like a bunch of tubes connected together for looks....
You pump air into the handle which acts as a air tank for storage, then you disconnect the pump and load your ammo into the barrel then open the ball valve.
Look up things before you post comments and use your brain in a good way...... :(

WHY IS THIS ALL CAPS?
vennev5 years ago
is this a multi shot or does it have to be pumped every time its shot?
j.c5 years ago
hey do you know any way to add a psi gauge?
vennev j.c5 years ago
yea i do it all the time to my projects, if u buy a second tire valve and put it somewhere on the gun were air is and buy an air pressure gauge thats 0 to 120 about 10 incimints and put them together. its a bit more costly but worth it
11richie215 years ago
i made one of these but improved it i actually made it with a fishing reel and put a harpoon into it to make it into a harpoon gun

Nice 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i've been playing paintball for over 9 years and the most common paintball is .68 calaber. Spider however has made a .43 and a .50 caliber paintbqll marker. yes a larger barrel would mean less accurate but at 100 psi that'll only shoot close distance. probly 25 - 40 feet. unless you can add more pressure to the system, don't bother on improving your barrel.
usbfuse5 years ago
i would use a hair spray can and put some of that spray in their and i need a hole on the pipe and put the lighter in relase the value and BANG

NICE PROJECT ! (Cap lock wasnt nessesary in your ible.)

Missing a couple of informations snd pictures about how to load and shoot but nice ible !

I dont get how it shoots? do you put it under pressure some how?

oo nvm but do you stick the paintballs into the front

Caps is cruise control for lame.
damn! sounds a little dangerous, right?

I realy liked the gun. Two things I'd like to clarify, though: on the tire valve, use PLENTY of super glue or else it will leak. The other is to use a ball valve that is VERY easy to open or at a 100 P.S.I., fireing the gun will be painfull and dificult. Great instructable!
i would use pvc cement and primer
I made an RPG for airsoft, and I solved the ball valve problem by taping a thin PVC pipe to the handle for increased leverage.
THanks. I wish I had had the Brains to think of that myself. However, I used the type of ball valve that Ace carries, and even if I had extra leverage, It still wouldn't be easy.

should the reducer fit in to the tee?
candyrandy7 years ago
I have an unrelated question. I was wondering if you could use brass pipe, a high pressure hose, and a modded sprinkler valve connected to a CO2 tank. What I'm worried about is the pressure because I've heard that paint ball tanks are pressurized at around 800 PSI
Co2 Tanks for paintball are pressurized at somthing more like 1200-1400 PSI
and air at 3000-4500 psi. >: )
