Step 1: Identify your resources

If you are young and your parents are home simply ask them if they have any ibuprofen to help your headache. If they are unsure of what it is use the more common name like advil. If they have some continue to step 2. If you don't live with your parents anymore, ibuprofen is usually hidden in the bathroom in the cabinet behind the mirror, under the sink, or in the drawers around it. Also, it can be on the top shelf of a linen closet where blankets, sheets etc. are kept. If you find some go to step 2. If you couldn't find any or don't believe in medication go to step 4. A third situation people are commonly in is being out when a headache strikes for this, go to step 5.

Step 2: You've struck gold!

Picture of You've struck gold!
NOTE: I AM NOT LIABLE FOR ANY OVERDOSE OF MEDICATION BECAUSE YOU MISUNDERSTOOD THIS ARTICLE AND THOUGHT YOU SHOULD TAKE THEM ALL. The next thing you'll need is a glass of water. Now, read the label on the ibuprofen carefully! Find the correct dosage for your size and age. The most likely dosage is 1 or 2. Now take a sip of water, but do not swallow, next drop the pill(s) in and swallow. Now drink the rest of the water because fluids are important to feel better. So fill up the glass again and take slow sips.

Step 3: Find a comfy spot.

You'll need to find a nice cool spot where it can be dark and quiet. I like to choose a bed. Next, turn on the air conditioner or fan and relax. Your headache should subside soon. I find it most comfortable to lie flat on my back to relax most in this situation.

Tylenol (not spelled right here) is not Ibuprophin. It's Acetominophin (probably not spelled right). Don't ever take them together without being told to by a medical proffesional. They are not good together. I get several kinds of headaches: 1) Migraines. Not much can help, by Excederine Migraine does sometimes. Out of the light, out of the noise and sleep often work better. 2) Dehydration. If I don't take in enough liquids, I get headaches. I usually start with a 16 or 20 ounce of Gatoraid, then do a 20 ounce bottle of water or two. Medicine won't help me with these. 3) Muscular. My muscles just don't agree with me sometimes, and things get out of wack. Pain killers and a hot pack are my best bet with these. 4) Just for the fun of it. That's right. I get headaches for no good reason. No trigger. No fun. Pain killers are my only option, and the don't work every time.
You realize that at least in the US, Excedrin Migraine is the exact same thing as Excedrin, right? The instructions just tell you to take less, because migraine sufferers typically overdose, and they're 'concerned' about rebounds. From what I understand, in other countries it used to be that excedrin migraine had codeine in it. I'm not sure about what the status is, now. At least from what I've seen, though, Ex. Migraine and regular Ex. generally cost about the same. It just irritates me (and lots of other migraine sufferers) that they can advertise the same product under different guises.
I think that codeine might be only available to medical professionals, but don't quote me on that.

Depends on the country. In the US, it's available by prescription only. Usually, when prescribed for pain, it's prescribed as Tylenol 3's, which is Tylenol with Codeine. I haven't been up there in a number of years, but I used to go to Canada to get Tylenol with Codeine over the counter. It was Tylenol 2's, I think, which means it has less Codeine than the prescription stuff down here, but it works better than the over the counter stuff we have down here.
Just as I thought. Codeine is an opium.
YES! I have noticed that. I don't let it bother me, really. I usually just buy the store brand. Cheaper, with the same active ingredient. Works just as well for me.
i have a terrible migrane as i type this comment.................
I've read that there are specific massage techniques that relieve headaches as most of them are in the muscles on one's head

As an adult, I take and rely on good old fashioned Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). It's perfectly safe for simple headaches. If no Aspirin, Acetaminophen, or Ibuprofen are available and you live in an appropriate area, chew on some Willow bark; It contains salicin, an ingredient very similar to Aspirin that was the first recorded prescribed medicine by Hippocrates.
wwwwooooooooowwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER TAKE ASPRIN IF YOUR UNDER 17
i had a friend that died from that hes mom gave him one and his brain swelledd up and he died im not liang

Another tip-off is the inability to spell the word "Lying".

I did say, as an adult... Didn't I?

BTW: The experts say that aspirin shouldn't be given to children under 13, especially if they are displaying any flu like symptoms.

Don't forget to take acetylsalicylic acid with dihydrogen monoxide. = )
Whaleman Mepain6 years ago
What?!?! Dihydrogen Monoxide? That is one of the most deadly substance on earth!
Mepain Whaleman6 years ago
Nah, you get used to it after the burning, choking, blinding light, neverending pain, suicidal thoughts, and 20 other various side effects.

Yeah

lol... i used to wrap my belt around head for a second or two for small mild headaches...
Great, guide, albeit simple and short. I personally prefer good ol' Aspirin, or even Naproxen Sodium (Aleve name brand). Those are about the only medications I'll take in almost any case. It's true that many people underestimate the value of relaxation, and often overmedicate, when a headache strikes.

Ibuprofen helps but hangovers are mainly from dehydration and the best way to relieve them is rehydration. As soon as you are concious and oriented, drink a large amount of water, take an Ibuprofen and lie down for as long as you can. Vitamins, drugs, etc are just putting an extra burden on your liver and nervous system (see lsd above). Even better is drink a lot of water while you are imbibing. But if you were thinking well enough to do that you probably wouldn't have drunk enough etoh to have this problem.
The history of acid (LSD) - A scientist was working on a simple cure for headaches, and discovered that headaches are caused by constricting blood vessels in your brain. he tried everything he could, and got few results. then he made what is known as LSD, he took a hit of it, and realized moments later, that his headache was gone! and also that he was tripping balls. So, LSD is a cure for headaches. I strongly discourage its use, but it does work, by loosening up blood vessels in your head, among other things.
Where did you get that 'history' from? LSD was first synthesised by Albert Hofmann of Sandoz, who (it is reported) accidentally medicated himself, and anecdotally went for a 'trip' on his bike... There's no real historical or current link to headaches that I know of. L
I read that in a drug informational packet about 2 and a half years ago, in a rehab clinic lobby. I don't know, if the story is 100% true, I would imagine it to be, if they had an informational packet on it. but what i do know is, it does cure headaches. trust me, I've tried it. it's a spendy, and illegal remedy. and somewhat of an impractical approach to the situation.
You worry me. Rehab clinic? Dropping acid for a headache? LSD is about as far off the planet as I've ever been, but I can't comment on the headache effect(s). So I'll take your word for it. L

I haven't had a headache in 25 years. The one time I did, I think I had a migraine as everytime I lifted my head from the pillow i would puke. Since that day, I never had another headache of any sort.
mrmath rockyt7 years ago
I'd suffer one headache that made me puke every time I lifted my head for every headache I would have in the next 25 years. Sounds very fair to me. (No, I'm not jealous!)
