Very interesting.

I have seen a noticeable effect that occurs when there is a small reflective object closer to the eye, to nearly touch it, such as a chromed pen cap. When the light reflected from the object pass through different layers of the eye, produces shadows over the retina that seems to correspond to small organisms that move, merge, split, etc.

When I was a child passed long whiles observing that effect.

I had noticed this effect when messing around with a laser in the bathroom sink but I thought it was either impurites in the the water or the cheap lens in the pointer. Interesting
