Contest Winner
Chocolate is yummy, we all know that but how do you make this sweet treat from scratch? Without investing in some heavy duty and expensive equipment its not possible, however if we let someone else process the beans for us and use a few simple tricks, DIY chocolate is within your grasp!

Step 1: Supplies.

You will need: 3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder (ground cocoa beans), 1/2 cup powdered sugar (or more if you like sweeter chocolate), healthy balance butter spread, Copha, or if you can get it cocoa butter use that, and you will also need some unsweetened baking chocolate. If you like you can also add rice krispies for a crunchy chocolate.

Step 2: Add the dry ingredients.

Add the cocoa powder and sugar. If you want sweeter chocolate (this is somewhat bitter) add some more sugar.

Step 3: Add the unsweetened chocolate.

Add the unsweetened chocolate (you need about five pieces) and heat.

Step 6: Put into desired mold and enjoy!

Place into a mold or a baking sheet and place in the freezer.when cool and hard you can eat it! If you want you can add more butter and no chocolate to make fudge!

Beautiful. This is Wrong reciepe. It burns rrwq .( Reverse Return Ware Quotient)
u might have burned your chocolate because of direct heating . to melt the chocolate or to heat it use double boiler technique where u keep a pot of water and boil and then place the chocolate pan on it steam created will heat/ melt ( whatever u require) your chocolate. chocolates are very sensitive to direct heat .hope this helps:)

So if you have cocoa butter, you don't need the baking chocolate? Even the health store in the one horse town I live has organic food grade cocoa butter.

The supply list isn't very clear, and the explanation in comments isn't clear either. It seems you need both both Copha or cocoa butter as well as pre-made baking chocolate since you have, "and you will also need..."
i had thought this would be like making chocolate from nibs or beans only other wise its nice
this isnt really making  chocoilate if youre using chocolate in the first place...
if you are tiring to make chocolate you would not have it in the first place...

I am Australian. I therefore can get copha from any supermarket. How do I change this recipe to suit?

Did you do it over a double boiler so the chocolate doesnt burn?(maybe a triple boiler, but the temp might be too low)
wtf is a double boiler? xx------xx

I did not use a double boiler but it would be a good idea.

What about a microwave? Low temp might work?
microwave could work, but it will burn it much faster if you get lazy. Maybe set it to low wattage and stir every 30seconds. Good thing about a double boiler, is as soon as the water is boiling, you add the chocolate to the top part, and turn the heat off. The remaining heat will melt the chocolate. Much safer if you have kids around(if you forget about it it doesnt matter so much). Alternatively(preferred) use a stainless steel bowl over a saucepan, just dont burn yourself.

so, you need chocolate to make chocolate? correct me if I am wrong lol...
pulsed (author)  Kaiven6 years ago
Yes you do but just for the cocoa butter that is in it. If you have cocoa butter (unlikely) or copha (only if you are an aussie) than you wont need the chocolate. But the amount of chocolate that you get out is much more than the amount you put in,in fact you could probably use less chocolate and still have a good hard product.

ok, thanks for the info! I'll try this one... day...
