Introduction: How to Make My Pneumatic Gun

In this instructable i will show you how to make a gun that i have made from my own plans and have been modifying for a long time. This one is a small caliber (10 mm) high preasure (3-4 bar) type.

Bear in mind this is my first instructable but feel free to pick at the design and constructively comment;-)

i take no responsibility for any cats/humans you kill with this!

(i will upload a video of it being fired soon!)

most of the parts specified can be found at screwfix direct, but you may want to buy the preasure guage off ebay or somewhare like that because i payed about £25 for mine!
please rate & comment!
PARTS:

Step 1: Firstly, How to Use Compression Fit Plumbing...

see the pictures

Step 2: Assembly Step One: Make the Barrel

firstly get your 10mm pipe and firmly attach it to the 15 to 10 mm adapter then attach about 5cm of 15mm pipe to the other end of the adapter. then attach this to the ball valve so that you pull the lever away from the end of the barrel to open.

Step 3: Assembly Step 2

attach about 8cm of 15mm pipe to the middle of the tee then add about 12cm on one of the sides and about 5-6cm on the other.

Step 4: Assembly Step 3, the Compression Chamber

(sorry that it was already assembled, i couldnt get the darn thing apart!)

Step 5: Put All the Main Bits Together!

add the compression tank to the bottom of the tee and the barrel to the largest pipe on the tee so that the handle faces UP.

Step 6: IMPORTANT!

TIGHTEN EVERYTHING UP AS HARD AS YOU CAN!

Step 7: Attach the Preassure Guage

simply push it onto the open peice of pipe that is left as far as it will go.

Step 8: Pump It Up!

use a bike pump that has the quick release kind of valve to keep all the air in, pump it up to about 3 or 4 bar. (with the valve shut obviously!)

Step 9: Ready? Aim, FIRE!

shove the end of the barrel a couple of cms into a potato and push it down the 10mm part of the barrel and no further.
you may want to do this before pumping it up so you keep more of the air in.

make sure you pull the ball vave very quickly, and all the way (after aiming it at the neigbors cat!)

this is a vary good man but i think i may have a better one that will actually shoot arrows and be able to bring the arrow back to you with a fishing reel set u

i wished i could make it !! but in america copper is expensive! i will ry to make one out of PVC instread! yu should try it itll be lighter! are you from the UK cause those are british bakery potatoes!?'

author
rocketbat (author)receiver5452007-10-20

lol! yep im in the uk, the reason i use copper is that i have lots of it, i didnt think of people who dont :-(

author
receiver545 (author)rocketbat2007-10-20

yea but we have PVC !! its cheap here! really cheap!

author
NetReaper (author)receiver5452009-01-25

but it can explode into shards if you dont check the psi rating, (if it has one)

author
XkidXhavocX (author)NetReaper2009-03-13

copper will explode easier because of the fact that it is supposed to be used for water piping.... not pneumatics....id be more worried about the copper

author

the weakest type of copper (type m) is rated to 250 psi. that's 250 pounds of pressure per square cm, regardless of whether it's water or air. Since he's using a regular bike pump, it won't go over 100 ps1. the most serious injury you could get from a basic ball valve pneumatic like this would be from dropping it on your foot.

author

u mean square inch?? pounds per square inch!

author
MINIMOOSE101 (author)XkidXhavocX2009-10-21

niether is pvc id use threaded steel but i would be HEAVY but you probably wont get high enough pressure to make it explode even eith co2

author
guitarmonk15 (author)2010-07-13

I wonder, what if you had a gravity fed magazine (after the valve). It would be easier to use bbs if you added one. Would it work?

author
raring1996 (author)2009-02-15

how much does all parts costs??

author
gearofwar123 (author)2009-01-02

1. What air source should i use? 2. can i use a paintball co2 tank? 3. How can i fire 10mm, 7mm nails or whatever?

author

And how far do the wall plugs go? like 300 feet?

author
blugyblug (author)2008-02-12

Where can u get Pressure Guages and Ball Valves?

i know a funny dialog about pushfits plumber-we just cracked the pushfit boss-dont worry i have an extra plumber-then give it boss-are you joking plumber-(awkward silence) me all the time-heheheheheheheheheheheheehehehehehehahahahahahaha

author
blugyblug (author)2008-03-08

Wait nvm... Great gun though. But the dragon owns ur gun.

author
michoi (author)2007-12-31

i suggest u solder the olive on to the pipe

author
lasermaster3531 (author)michoi2008-01-19

olive has to slide

author
michoi (author)2007-12-31

that gun is awesome since you can take it apart for cleaning

author
michoi (author)2007-12-31

500 psi

author
casvandegoor (author)2007-11-15

I thought you can use a much higher presure when using copper

author
rocketbat (author)casvandegoor2007-11-15

yes, you can, but when i made this, i was still using a push fit preasure guage that can only take about 5 Bar.

author
casvandegoor (author)rocketbat2007-11-16

ow, ok, nise and neath gun by the way!

author
gotja (author)2007-08-26

klol im gonna amke one well another one but kinda differnt from urs and maby try to find 6 mm so i can fire bbs

author
rocketbat (author)gotja2007-08-29

that is a good idea, i tried that and found out that the best barrel you can get is a one out of a realy cheap, oversized BB gun.

author
gotja (author)rocketbat2007-08-29

hmm maby i could use a bigger pvc pipe and either make a grenade launcher(basicaly a baloon or a easter egg with a small charge with bbs inside) or make a giant shotgun

author
zach911 (author)2007-07-25

how much does it cost in total to make it?

author
rocketbat (author)zach9112007-07-25

without that preasure guage, it must have cost no more than ten pounds. But if you solderd it, it would cost even less! (and be stronger)

author

umm do you no how many us dollars ten pounds is equall to

author

well, at the moment £10 is about $20.

author
tomonto (author)2007-07-12

hmmmmm...bearded dragon+bycicle pump+gun thing=world domination ahhhh... i see your plan now

author
lawizeg (author)tomonto2007-07-19

lol

author
rocketbat (author)tomonto2007-07-12

shhh! its a secret!

author
jtobako (author)rocketbat2007-07-13

...but will the harness that holds the pneumatic gun on the bearded dragon hold the barrel over it's aiming eye or-for balance-the other side? And, will the limited field of binocular vision negatively impact the, um, impact area?...

author
rocketbat (author)jtobako2007-07-13

my first target is honaloulou!

author
jtobako (author)rocketbat2007-07-14

Via Nevada testing grounds or Bikini I presume?

lemonie (author)2007-07-14

I like the all-metal construction, make a bigger one? L

author
rocketbat (author)lemonie2007-07-15

im going to post another instructable on the one i have made now that is a lot bigger and an awfull lot more powerfull! muhahaha

author
lemonie (author)rocketbat2007-07-15

Oh good L

twisted (author)2007-05-27

Cool. but PVC is much easier to use. and you can glue it together! I've made a PVC one with an onboard pump that handles over 200psi. Ive personally shot it at 180 PSI with a nerf dart for ammo. needless to say, that nerf dart it no more. when shooting with metal ammo at 180PSI it has kickback, and will put massive hols in walls. Be becarefull, and do not shoot living things unless you intened to kill them. haha ;) Havefun ~Jhalek90

author
rocketbat (author)twisted2007-05-27

wow! i didnt realise pvc could withstand such high preasures! but i dont think i should start pumping to 200 psi as i have already blown a brand new pump with this :-D btw are you on about very large pvc pipes (like up to 4") or the 21.5mm stuff, because ive got loads of that! thanks for commenting!

author
EvilLawnGnome (author)rocketbat2007-07-13

Schedule 40 here in the states. DO NOT USE ANYTHING LABELED DWV. This is for Drain, Waste, and Vent, and is not suitable for line pressure. As long as it is schedule forty, it will rock 200psi. Just look at the pressure rating on the side of the pipe. US law requires it to be there. Also, there is such a thing as schedule 80. I believe it can handle more pressure, but it is harder to find - you wont find it at most hardware stores.

author
master-of-chaos (author)twisted2007-06-05

how thick was this pvc your talking about

author
snipegoat (author)2007-07-13

could you use small marshmellows

author
T3h_Muffinator (author)2007-07-12

!! I like this design, but I'd really like to see an automatic pneumatic gun/cannon. Btw, I used to have a bearded dragon, too v_v. His name was godzilla (he used to terrorize the lego cities I made as a wee 7 year old). I miss godzilla.... v_v

author
rocketbat (author)T3h_Muffinator2007-07-13

XD great idea! lego cities, lol! i tried to make a fully automatic but it was horribly innoficient :-(

author
theRIAA (author)2007-07-12

im sorry, but this looks horribly in-efficient as far as cost to awesomeness goes. solvent welding PVC will be just as strong as those compression fitting. but don't use PVC unless is says "pw" somewhere on it!!!!!!!!!! "pw"!!!!
