Introduction: How to Solve a Rubiks Cube Indepth and Easy Instructions.

Picture of How to Solve a Rubiks Cube Indepth and Easy Instructions.

ok to solve the rubiks cube you must first become accustomed to it take your cube hold it out in front of you.

Picture 2 is how the guide works ,pretty cool, huh!

you'll see something like picture 1.

now learn the lingo for your cube picture 2.
U. up as in the top.
B. back you don't need to know this for any movements.
L. the left side
R. the right side
F. the front side
D. the bottom side as in down.

If I have a ( ' ) mark after one letter in a sequence such as F U F' that means to turn that side that has the mark on it counterclockwise.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_s e c o r e t
If I have a ( " ) mark after a letter such as U" D" L" R" B" F" that means to turn the side 180 degrees half a circle.

note: your rubik's cube might be slightly different then mine in the pictures all you have to do is think to yourself that the color I am using is the color you have to use for that.

Step 1: Step 1 the Cross

Picture of Step 1 the Cross

this is really easy.

1.All you have to do is select your color I chose green.

2.Find the center piece the one sided piece with only green on it.

3.Position that piece on tho bottom of the cube.

4.Now, look for one of the side corner pieces the these corners only have 2 sides it has to have one green side on it.

5.It will have another color on the other side I don't know that color is so I'll represent it with a ? mark.
You have to take ? and green and find the same colored center piece as the ? is. Try to get those 2 colors matched up like in picture 2 you can see the center blue and the corner green and blue are matched up and in place.

6.Once you get them matched up all you have to do is rotate that side until the greens come together on the bottom.

repeat steps 4 -6 until you have a cross.

I'm sorry I cant explain this better I know I had a very hard time with this step for a while but once I got it I can get this step done as fast as I can find the colors.

the rest will be a little easier.

Step 2: Step 2 the Corners

Picture of Step 2 the Corners

the purple marks where the piece will go ,and it will be in the right direction

if you have no idea what that red righting on the top of the picture means go back to the intro and read the terms.

now before doing this you have to find your corner that you want to do it usually is in the top row but it might be in the bottom if it is all you have to do to get it out is turn that corner up to the top and then turn the top until that corner gets in line with were you want it to go.

the easiest way to understand this is to remember what color you have on the bottom of the cube and if the color that's on the bottom of the cube is pointing to the LEFT then you have to use picture 1 if you the bottom color is pointing to the RIGHT then you have to use picture 2 ,and if the bottom color is pointing UP you have to use picture 3.

understanding that will help you to fully understand what you're doing. I used to use a guide as my crutch for a very long time but now I can solve it with no help in the slightest. in less than 3 minutes.

picture 4 is what it looks like finished.

Step 3: Step 2 the Side Corners

Picture of Step 2 the Side Corners

it's starting to get tricky so pay good attention.

ok so now we're doin' the side corners.

First find a side corner they're usually in the top slice of the cube.if so just turn it until it matches up with one of the colors on the lower slice.

if you cant find one in the top slice or you ran out look in the mid slices corners sometimes they're in there. if you find one then all you have to do is one of those movements in the pictures.

Just do this until you get all 4 corners done.

picture 3 is how it should look on every side if you did it right.

Step 4: Step 4 Wait Your on the Top Part Already

Picture of Step 4 Wait Your on the Top Part Already

Dose the top of your cube look like this? picture 1 then do what it says at the top op the pic.

Or does it look like this? picture 2 then do what it says at the top of the picture.

Or, does it not look like ether? if so just do one of the movements on top of the picture watch those counter clockwise symbols

Ok now look picture 3 notice I didn't specify witch corners to put where. now it's time to fix that.

take your cube look at the yellow 2 sided corners that are in line with each other but not in the right places.

PICTURES 4-5 are for fixing the cross.

the arrows represent where you need to move the corners to.

you can easily do this on your own.

Step 5: Step 5 ,3 Sided Corners Second Last Step Btw.

Picture of Step 5 ,3 Sided Corners Second Last Step Btw.

so your cube currently looks like this. picture 1

The corner are the only thing left so it will be really simple.... in the first half of the step any way.

move the corners to where they belong with picture 2 - 5 they will do exactly what the arrows say.

Step 6: Step 6 Final Corner Movements

Picture of Step 6 Final Corner Movements

if you want to turn the corner clockwise use picture 1

if you want to turn the corner counterclockwise use picture 2

here is an example of how to use this step. after you do one corner turn the top slice to the next one see if you have to turn it clockwise or counterclockwise if you turn it the same direction as you did the last time it will not fix the cube so make sure you don't move it the same way twice.

so just dont use the same pattern twice in a row and don't turn the whole cube.

Step 7: Solved Cube

if you just solved the rubik's cube for the first time or haven't solved it for many years and forgot how I want to congratulate you and thank you for using my instructable.

leave a comment tell me how I did if something is uncleare to you then send me a private message.

Step 8: Challenge

See if you can memorize all the movements and what they'll do it only took me a couple of months of on and off work to get it.

try righting down all the movements and what they'll do on the cube like I did in this instructable so you don't have to be on the computer to do it. I did that and on the way down to florida (I live in ohio) in a car so I had like 11 hrs to do it.

Step 9: Advanced Patterns Submitted by ELeet

Picture of Advanced Patterns Submitted by ELeet

note your rubiks cube MUST be solved first to do these.

picture 1 checkering the easiest one. L" R" U" D" B" F" each side 180*

picture 2 easy stripes L" B" R" L" B" R"

picture 3 wow cube inside of a cube! F L F U' R U F" L" U' L' B D' B' L" U be careful

picture 4 dots in blocks. L' R U D' F' B L' R

i dont get it ahhh

bertj (author)2011-01-21

please help! after i do one of the 4 corners, the other ones are spread all over the cube so there's no way i can do the move again. help please! so frustrating, almost there and then it goes totally wrong :(

the_burrito_master (author)bertj2011-01-21

After you do one just don't even look at the bottom of the cube only the top layer.
it will mess up the cube, to do the next corner jsut turn the top layer to the next one and do the movement you didn't use the first time, you just cannot use the same move 2 times.

If you use pic 1 first use pic 2 on another corner.

If you use pic 2 first use pic 1 on another corner.

bertj (author)the_burrito_master2011-01-22

oh, so it doesn't have to be another corner of the top layer? thanks, will try :)

kisa7 (author)2009-07-09

hi! can u help me please im stuck on step 6. whenever i do a pattern it turns the corner in to the correct position but then it messes up the rest of the cube im not sure if its suppose to b like tht or not please help me! i tried a lot of times already >.

promiser (author)kisa72010-03-30

Yes it will mess up the cube. But once that top corner is in place rotate the top 90 degrees and repeat until all four BLUE corners are in place. Which then you should only need one or two obvious turns to finish it

J-Five (author)2008-12-06

A couple of years ago I could solve one in 5 minutes. Here's a Challenge try it blindfolded.

I could never do it blind folded I don't know how people can realize exactly were every cubie will go?

hmm they looks it over and memorize the parts? oh and theres an easy way to have a blindfolded vid on youtube: blindfold yourself, get a solved cube, move it in random directions, then play the vid backwards.

yeah I know but that's lame and the reason that those people should be banned.

dsman195276 (author)J-Five2008-12-11

i have, i can usually solve the cube when i only look at it around 15 times.

dsman195276 (author)2008-12-10

nice, my record for the cube is 45 seconds.

sweet I just solved it today in 1 min 46 seconds. :) my average is about 00:02:20.

my average is a minute, haha! i win! just kidding.
